Throughout his adventure, he faces enemies, and after each battle, he reflects and considers what he could do best to gain the upper hand. Zoro, like Luffy, has a clear objective in mind, but he also enjoys fighting other opponents and, whenever he can, ends up causing trouble or scandal.

Zoro initially makes it clear to Luffy that he is only traveling with him to fulfill his dream. However, he gradually began to think differently, even stating during the battle with Kuma that "Luffy must be the man who becomes the Pirate King," which could be considered a goal in itself. He has always shown himself to be the most devoted to Luffy throughout the series, even referring to him as the "Pirate King" after his defeat by Mihawk and during the fight with Kuma.

He is also extremely arrogant and stubborn; whenever Chopper tells him to take a break due to the injuries he has from every fight, he simply ignores it and goes about his business as usual, demonstrating his lack of concern for the state of his body as long as he can follow his desire. When the situation becomes urgent or dire, his strong sense of reason makes him the bedrock of the crew (such as when Usopp left the crew). Whether he agrees with them or not, he will always support Luffy's choices, only offering his point of view when others cannot grasp the full significance of the circumstances.

But, aside from being a reliable crew member and a great fighter, Zoro is also known for having the worst sense of direction of the entire crew, so he can get lost even on straight paths or when someone shows him the way; if there is a path, Zoro will likely be able to get lost, no matter how simple it is.
