One Piece: What Happened to Caribou? Is He Dead?

One Piece has a surprisingly large number of supporting characters who have appeared over the series' two decades of existence. Many have been forgotten because they appeared early on, while others have remained supporting characters closely tied to the lore's past. The character who will be the subject of this article is Caribou, a very interesting character with a very important place in One Piece lore. Caribou's role in One Piece's story is relatively well-known, and we'll briefly go over his story while revealing what happened to him and whether or not he died.

  • Distribution of articles:
  • Caribou is a notorious pirate and supporting character in Oda's One Piece, who appeared on the Sabaody Archipelago during the Straw Hat Pirates' reunion after the time skip.
  • He is an intriguing character who always has his own interests in mind, so he will not hesitate to deceive others, eavesdrop, or similar acts.
  • He was present in Wano and is currently part of Egghead's crew, which means he is indeed alive in the series, i.e., he is not dead.

Caribou has been around for a while, but he's always been a devious character with his own agenda.

When Caribou learned that the Mugiwara Pirate Gang was recruiting members, he joined them with his brother and the entire gang. Although he noticed that the faces didn't match the photos on the wanted poster, he believed they were real. As they gathered at Grove 46, they were followed by Marines, but the brothers summarily assassinated the leader.

After the Marine recruit gathering under Sentōmaru is stormed and the fraud with the fake Mugiwara Pirates is exposed, Caribou takes revenge on the remaining members, who they believe were coerced into the fake game by Demaro Black, by burying them alive.

Knowing the location of the real Mugiwara Pirates, he dives after them with his ship shortly after to kill them. Pulled by Mōmu, they ram the Sunny at full speed. Just as the Caribou Pirate Gang is about to board the ship, the pack animal sees Sanji and Luffy and flees, though Caribou jumps in first. Alone on the ship, he pleads for his life and surrenders; afterward, Luffy ties him up. However, all the passengers face far greater danger when they spot the Kraken. His gang is able to approach them again after calming Mōmu, but they are all crushed by the monster.

At Caribou's suggestion, some Straw Hats don a striking jacket and fight the Kraken, but after their victory, they are dragged into the depths. In this carefree moment, Caribou frees himself from his bonds, hides in a barrel in liquid form, and makes plans until Franky finally discovers him and locks him inside. After the Straw Hats open the way to Fish-Man Island in a wild action, Caribou is finally in his barrel, stranded at Mermaid Cove.

The mermaids who freed him came to regret it: immediately after his release, he used his evil powers to capture and rescue the three mermaids. He wishes to continue his raid and take as many prisoners as possible. His next target is Shirahoshi, whom he learned about from overheard conversations. She is the great mermaid princess who can make tons of money. With Ryūgū Castle deserted due to the fight against the New Fishman pirate gang, Caribou takes all its treasures, including the national treasure Tamatebako, while leaving the three captured mermaids behind.

Caribou soon overhears a conversation between Neptune and Robin, who discover that Shirahoshi is Poseidon's ancient weapon. When he wants to recapture Shirahoshi after celebrating the defeat of the New Fishman Pirate Gang, Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji interrupt. Luffy unceremoniously throws him out of the castle with a single punch but is then sent after by Nami along with the other two when she learns that Caribou has all the treasures. Once they find him, they simply retrieve the treasures from his body in the swamp while Caribou is still unconscious.

When Caribou awakens, he searches for those who took his stolen goods and encounters Tamago-danshaku and Pekoms of the Big Mom Pirate Gang, to whom Luffy gave the treasure. To please his boss, he attacks Pekoms with the Numa Numa no Gatling Gun, but Pekoms protects himself with his evil powers. When Caribou refuses to give up and gives chase, Pekoms knocks him out with a punch despite Caribou's Logia body. Caribou remains on Fishman Island even after the Mugiwara Pirates leave and hunt the mermaids in Mermaid Bay.

Caribou was also present in Wano Country, where he was imprisoned in Udon. There, he met Luffy and shared some of his food with the pirate, trying to convince him to ally with him. At the same time, he plotted for his own benefit, as usual. When Kaido and Big Mom were defeated, Caribou listened to the conversations, and when he discovered that Pluto was in Wano, he was eager to share this information with someone.

This approach also got him into trouble, as when the Straw Hats sailed to Egghead, Caribou ended up on their ship and was locked in a barrel as punishment. He was afraid the crew would return to Alabasta to rescue Vivi, but was just as angry when they ended up on Egghead (which is when he was freed), a government island.
