Aramaki's pseudonym is Ryokugyū, which means "Green Bull" in Japanese.

Aramaki's backstory is largely unknown, except that—in his own words—he had completely stopped eating about a year before the story begins. He was appointed admiral alongside Fujitora after Kuzan's resignation and Sakazuki's promotion, as these two events created two vacancies that Aramaki and Fujitora filled.

He was briefly seen, albeit in silhouette form, during the Levely Arc in Mary Geoise's Pangea Castle; he was tasked with getting Fujitora to leave, but instead, the two sat down for a cordial conversation about Vegapunk and the Seven Warlords of the Sea. His first major appearance was in Wano.

After the Levely, Aramaki heads towards Wano Country and, as it approaches, interferes with the communication between the Five Elders and a CP0 agent, asking the latter to stay where he is and stating that he will soon reach his position. A week later, Sakazuki calls him to inquire about his whereabouts and reveals that he has just sighted Wano Country; his superior then tells him not to do anything unnecessary, to which Ryokugyū replies that he is aware of it and tells him to be calm.

Arriving at Udon Prison, which he covers with flamboyant vegetation, he absorbs the life force of the Beast Pirates present and kicks Queen, ordering her to surrender, as it would look bad if he were defeated by mere officers, pointing out that the Navy cannot send anyone to clean up this mess. He then complains about the quality of the sake, pointing out that it still needs to be fermented. He then requests a warship, ordering her not to let Sakazuki know about it as he admires him and wants to be congratulated by him for removing the Straw Hat. Then he hears the festive music in the Flower Capital and goes there, cursing the pirates and the havoc they have wreaked on the world.

Stating that influence is difficult to gain, even though it is desired, he meets with Denjiro, Shinobu, Raizo, Kawamatsu, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi, whom he tells them not to get in his way, as they recognize him as a member of the Navy and therefore an enemy of their pirate allies. The admiral begins to unleash his powers and asks what they think they know about the world outside of Wano Country, whose deities are the World Nobles, stating that if they are not part of the World Government, they are its enemies.

He then states that man needs to create socially inferior beings, and it is thanks to such unaffiliated countries that this is possible because they guarantee discrimination, adding that, therefore, he would not be breaking the law even if he killed thousands of local inhabitants, which is what he is willing to do to capture the Straw Hat, defying those who came before him.

Yamato, however, joins them and responds that what he said is unforgivable, attacking him in the head with his weapon. Aramaki is injured and points out the power of the girl's Armament Haki, to which he asks who he is. Proclaiming that he will not allow anyone to spoil the celebrations of his newfound freedom after twenty years of tyranny, Yamato introduces himself as Kaido's son, surprising his opponent.

Kozuki Momonosuke arrives in dragon form and agrees with the girl, stating that they will not allow her to annoy their saviors and attempts to attack her with an energy wave, failing, so he bites him and drives him away from the capital as he declares that he has a promise to his people. Aramaki is surprised as he has never heard of a power capable of transforming someone into a pink dragon. However, he catches the latter with gigantic gods, who refuse Yamato's help even though he is in the worst case.

Raizo unleashes flames on him, who pretends to catch fire but remains unharmed, telling him that defeating a Marine Admiral like that doesn't seem too trivial. He then stabs the ninja and dehydrates him, then grabs the others with his powers as well, pointing out that they can't do anything against Mother Nature and that if Kaido hadn't been defeated, he wouldn't have come here, stating that while it may be hard to predict, it was actually the former emperor's power that kept the enemies away from Wano, reiterating that he is willing to leave if the Straw Hat is handed over to him.

Hearing the dragon refuse to help the others because the burden of defending Wano Country rests on them, something they could never do by relying on others, Aramaki says they are children and that it is pitiful. Momonosuke tells him to leave, and unexpectedly, he manages to emit two waves of energy that pierce and set the admiral's plant-like body ablaze. The latter corrects himself at another point and asks him if he wants to burn the entire city down, which he agrees to, specifying that he has nothing in common with Kaido but that he would impale him from head to tail.

At that moment, however, he spots Shanks's Conqueror Haki, who orders him to stop, sensing that the latter's crew is nearby. Unwilling to fight them, he decides to retreat. Aramaki arrives at Sphinx Island to reinforce some Marines who had been attacked by Edward Weeble, a member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, before their disbandment. There, the admiral defeats and captures the pirate, taking him aboard a warship.
