One Piece: Who is Nico Robin's mother? Meet Nico Olvia!

Nico Robin is undoubtedly one of the most popular and interesting One Piece characters. She later joined Luffy on his adventures after initially being an enemy, but has since proven herself to be a beloved and irreplaceable member of the crew. She is a genius and knows many important facts about the history of the Oda world, but on top of that, she is also quite powerful. From now on, in this article, we will talk about Nico Robin, but not about her directly. We will delve into her past to tell you a little about her late mother (as we assume), Nico Olvia, who played a significant role in Robin's life.
Nico Olvia is Nico Robin's mother and was an archaeologist 22 years ago. Olvia was killed by Buster Call, along with all the other Ohara scientists. She was Oran's younger sister, Roji's sister-in-law, and Mizuira's aunt. Nico Robin is her daughter, whom she had to leave behind to fulfill her ancestral duties and her late husband's will when Robin was only two years old.
The rest of this article will focus on Nico Olvia, her story, and her role in the world of Oda's One Piece series. We'll introduce you to her story and tell you what exactly happened to her, how she developed, and where she is now and what she's doing in the manga's current narrative. This article will contain some spoilers, so if you're not fully up to date, you've been warned.
Nico Olvia's story is complex and intricate, ultimately marked by tragedy.
Nico Olvia is a normal human female in terms of combat abilities, and even with a rifle in hand, she was unable to counter the two CP9 agents who accompanied Spandine upon her arrival on Ohara (see below). It was not easy for Olvia to leave her young daughter alone on Ohara, but she was fully aware of her duties as a scholar of Ohara and her task to uncover the true history, so she set out with a group of 33 other scholars to decipher the Ponegylph. She blames herself for leading the World Government to Ohara with her colleagues, which would ultimately destroy the island.
When Robin was two years old, Olvia left her to join a group of archaeologists tasked with researching and deciphering the Poneglyph around the world. Olvia was only 27 at the time, and all this happened shortly after her husband's death. She didn't want to leave her only daughter, but she felt an obligation to her late husband and his vocation, which is why she finally did so, even with a heavy heart.
Toward the end of the sixth year of their voyage, their ship was captured by the Marines, who captured them; her crew members attempted to protect Olvia, but they were all killed by the Marines, except for her. She was taken to Jaguar D. Saul, who interrogated and imprisoned her, but soon released her and allowed her to escape, disgusted by what the World Government called justice. Olvia thanked him but stated that she could never forgive him for what he and his men had done to her friends and colleagues.

Four years later, Olvia returns home to Ohara and visits the Tree of Knowledge library, where she apologizes to her colleagues for pitting the Marines against Ohara, but also receives an apology from them for sending her on such a dangerous mission. She returned home shortly after Nico Robin passed her archaeologist exams and encountered the giant Jaguar D. Saul, the same former Marine who captured and then helped her mother escape, on the coast. The two missed each other by mere seconds.
Continuing their conversation, Olvia warns the Ohara scholars that the World Government has learned of their secret plan to uncover the true history, that she can no longer prevent World Government agents from discovering definitive proof of the archaeologists' machinations, and that they have discovered how to read the poneglyphs; this means they have become too dangerous for the World Government, as those who can read the poneglyphs might also be able to find and use the ancient weapons. The discussion is interrupted once Olvia learns that a Navy ship has landed on the island; she grabs a rifle and leaves immediately.

Outside, she encountered Spandine of CP9, whom she shot in the sleeve of his jacket as a warning; but Spandine calmly told her that the World Government was there to destroy Ohara as a warning to anyone wishing to research the Poneglyphs. She was quickly knocked unconscious and arrested, after which she was taken to the library to extract a confession from her colleagues: any association with Olvia would automatically signify their "guilt."
Clover, the library director, finally reveals everything, and as Olvia is taken away, she is confronted by Robin; after some persuasion, she finally admits to being her mother, but it is too late to change things, as Spandine had already ordered the Buster Call. This deadly military attack would soon wipe out all of Ohara.
After a brief reunion with her daughter after many years of absence, Olvia says her goodbyes and stays with her colleagues to ensure the library's book inventory is saved from the flames during the Buster Call. She begged Saul to take Robin to safety, which is how Nico Robin survived, while she and the rest of the scholars are presumed dead in the Marine attack that completely destroyed Ohara. And that's Nico Olvia's story; she's probably dead (though Oda might still surprise us), and even if she wasn't the mother of the year, she cared about Nico Robin, making this story one of the best in the series overall.
