One Piece has a surprisingly large number of supporting characters who have appeared over the series' two decades of existence. Many have been forgotten because they appeared early in the story, while others have remained secondary characters closely tied to the lore's past. The character who will be the subject of this article is an intriguing yet mysterious figure in the series. He is currently known as "The Burn Scar Man," and even though we know his name, he remains one of the series' biggest mysteries. Who is he and why is he so important? Read on to find out!

Hinokizu is a very influential but enigmatic figure

Hinokizu was first mentioned in Chapter 1055/Episode 1083, but he has yet to make his own personal appearance in the story. We don't know what he looks like, whether he's male or female, how old he is, who he works for, etc.; the only thing we know about Hinokizu is that he has a burn scar somewhere on his body, which explains his name (as well as the official translation). As we'll expand on below, it could very well be that Hinokizu isn't even his real name. So who is this guy, and why is he so important that we're talking about him so much?

Well, you remember the Poneglyphs, right? At the time of writing, Luffy's crew has found three of the four Poneglyphs, and the location of the fourth is still unknown. No information has yet been revealed about this latest Road Poneglyph. It is known that 25 years ago, it was located on Fish-Man Island. Inuarashi and Nekomamushi, who know the locations of the other Road Poneglyphs, do not know where this one is. The Poneglyph indicates a point in the New World, and it is assumed that it will finally reveal the location of Laugh Tale.

What's Hinokizu's connection to all this? Well, it's assumed this enigmatic figure possesses the last Poneglyphs, either acquired them or stole them. This is why Hinokizu is respected even by the Four Emperors, despite theories that he works for the World Government (see below). Finding him is said to be crucial in the journey to find the One Piece treasure, but the task isn't easy.

Hinokizu is said to sail a completely black boat and to be able to create whirlpools, but this hasn't been further elaborated on. All of this makes him a potentially dangerous enemy, and it doesn't seem like he's going to just give away the Poneglyph. Regardless, his story is quite important and interesting, so we're eager to learn more.

Who is Hinokizu really?

Well, as for the identity of this character, we have nothing to add. He was originally mentioned as 火ノ傷 (Hinokizu) in the series, which later became simply ヒノキズ in katakana, but the phrase actually means "Fire Wound," i.e., "Burn Scar," which is also the official English translation. This means that it could very well be that Hinokizu is not the character's real name, i.e., it's simply a nickname based on his most pronounced physical trait, as we know that the person known as Hinokizu has a scar somewhere on his body. body.

Additionally, even though we refer to Hinokizu as male (according to the official Wikia), it is possible that the character is actually female; if this happens, we will make the necessary connections.

Anyway, who could Hinokizu be? Is it someone we've seen in the series before? We don't know of any characters with burn scars, so there's no direct candidate at the moment. Some fans think Monkey D. Dragon could be Hinokizu, based on his tattoos (which could hide his scar), as well as the fact that he causes (rain) storms wherever he goes. It's known that Hinokizu can create whirlpools, which is a similar phenomenon. But this is just a theory, and we really have no indication that Hinokizu is a Dragon.

Hinokizu is most likely a new character who will be introduced into the series once the protagonists reach his location. There is an in-universe theory that Hinokizu might be working for the World Government, which could turn out to be true, but it's also something we'll have to wait for if we want proper confirmation of this fact. It wouldn't make sense for Oda to reuse an old character, considering how he created so many, and there are currently no figures he's introduced that we know of that could be used as Hinokizu.

Either way, Hinokizu will definitely be introduced later in the series, and we hope it will be very soon, as Hinokizu's story seems to be very interesting and important.
