One Piece: Who is X Drake, the marine spy and what happened to him in Wano Country?

The characters we've seen in Oda's One Piece are truly incredible. They're diverse, intriguing, and—in most cases—favorite fans. On top of that, they're generally very well-written characters whose stories are always fun to explore. And that's what we're going to do in this article. This article will focus on a character named X Drake, a supporting character who has a very intriguing story due to the role he plays in the larger narrative. In this article, you'll discover who X Drake was and what happened to him in the world of One Piece.
X Drake is the leader of the Drake Pirates and one of the recruits who visited the Sabaody Archipelago when the Mugiwara Pirates visited the archipelago. Drake was a former Marine Rear Admiral before resigning for unknown reasons and becoming a pirate, at least publicly. But this was just a thrill, as X Drake was actually a Marine spy the whole time, which is why, once discovered, he joined the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance to save his own life.
The rest of this article will focus on X Drake, his history, and his role in the world of Oda's One Piece series. We'll introduce you to his backstory and current story, how it developed, and explain where X Drake is currently and what he's doing in the manga's current narrative. This article will contain some spoilers, so if you're not fully up to date, you've been warned.
X Drake is one of the most intriguing and complex characters in the series.
Drake was born in the North Sea and, eleven years before the beginning of the story, was a member of the Barrels Pirates. He and the rest of the crew were present at Minion to prepare for the exchange of the Ope Ope no Mi with the Navy. After Doflamingo landed on the island and part of it was subsequently imprisoned by the Birdcage, Drake found himself outside the island and decided to flee rather than help his companions. During his escape, he was taken into the custody of the Navy. Sengoku cared for him like a son.
He then joined the Navy and rose through the ranks to the rank of Staff Rear Admiral and became Captain of SWORD. Later, for some unknown reason, he went undercover as Captain of the Drake Pirates. X Drake and his men reached the Sabaody Archipelago. At Grove 21, the pirate found Urouge and Killer intent on a duel and decided to break off their duel, not wanting the Navy to decide to send its forces there. As he walked away, he ran into Law, who asked him how many people he had killed.
Later, X Drake notices that there aren't many Marines on the archipelago—an odd occurrence considering their headquarters is nearby. Shortly after, he receives a special issue of the newspaper in which he discovers the reason for this anomaly: the Marines are preparing to execute Portgas D. Ace. Assuming Whitebeard won't stand by and watch one of his best men die like this, X Drake realizes that the Marines are gathering strength for the upcoming battle.

When news of Luffy's attack on a World Noble spread, X Drake ordered his crew to prepare to set sail, wondering who would appear to help him. Shortly after, he intervened in the fight between Urouge and a Pacifista at Grove 24, stating, after seeing him in action, that he had no idea Vegapunk had come to this. He was also soon involved in the clash between Kizaru and Basil Hawkins. The three pirates and Apoo were effortlessly defeated by the admiral.
Drake watches the battle at Marineford from the Sabaody Archipelago, having managed to avoid arrest. When the television broadcasts are cut, he sets sail with his men to witness the final stage of the war for supremacy in person. At the end of hostilities, he claims that the balance between the pirates and the Navy will shift. The Drake Pirates arrive in the New World and land on a winter island where they meet Scotch, an ally of Kaido, who reveals that the island is one of the Emperor's favorites.
When it is confirmed that attacking him would attract the latter's attention, desperate to be part of his crew, he uses his Devil Fruit powers to attack the cyborg. Infiltrating on behalf of the Navy, X Drake joins Kaido's crew and, less than a year later, attacks and devastates Amigasa, also defeating its five samurai guards. He later becomes one of the Tobiroppo.

Later, Kobi tells him about Luffy, revealing how amazing he is, adding that if you're his friend, he'll do anything to help you, but if you're his enemy, he'll be out of your league. Not understanding what he means, he asks him for an explanation, to which Kobi replies that Luffy has the power to attract people. When Caribou, disguised as Gaburu, defeats Scotch and destroys a factory on an island under Kaido's control, Drake goes there and attacks him, his crew, and Gaburu's rebels while they're celebrating.
After defeating Caribou, he takes him aboard his ship and then has him imprisoned in Udon. While in Onigashima, Drake reads in the newspaper about Doflamingo's defeat at the hands of Law and Luffy's alliance and becomes interested.
After receiving orders to eliminate a vendor who defeated some members of the Kyoshiro family, X Drake and Page One reach the Flower Capital, where they encounter Hawkins. During the execution of Shimotsuki Yasuie, X Drake and Hawkins receive a report about the intrusion of the people of Ebisu into the Flower Capital. Later, X Drake and Hawkins interrogate Law for information on his alliance's intentions. X Drake later returns to Rasetsu, where he frees Law from prison.

On the night of the fire festival, the Tobiroppo family reaches Onigashima and argues, teasing each other. After meeting Kaido, Jack, and King, the latter reveals that he summoned them using the emperor's name because otherwise, some Tobiroppo family members, including Sasaki and Who's Who, would not have come.
X Drake tells Hawkins that he knows he was forced to join Kaido and that now he can even flee given the situation, so Hawkins replies if he would really let him while predicting that a certain person only has a 1% chance of surviving until the next day. At that moment, the Tobiroppo receive a call from King, who updates them on the situation and orders them to stop searching for Yamato and help him stop anyone who tries to reach the top of the island, adding that the challenge between them and the All-Stars is canceled.
Shortly after, Who's Who reaches Drake and asks him to follow him to Queen, believing that the time has come to kill the Superstar, as it is too difficult to do alone. Drake does not want to get involved in his feud and asks if he intends to weaken the crew's strength. However, shortly after, Who's Who and Queen violently attack Drake, who demands an explanation.
The two and Hawkins question him about his actions, including releasing Law from prison. He realizes that the person the All-Star wanted to kill was him and then declares that he will not reveal anything, prompting laughter from Queen, who retorts that everyone does it when they are under his torture.
At that moment, Drake takes advantage of an explosion to escape, and after transforming into his hybrid form and thinking for a moment about returning to the Marines, he understands that he still has work to do there.

After moving into a room in the palace with three Numbers, Apoo discovers that X Drake is a Marine spy and proposes that they team up to escape with the loot once the battle is over, regardless of which side wins, stating that there is no point in fighting if they are not on either side. The Rear Admiral does not trust him, but Apoo states that the lack of trust is mutual and that they would both benefit, pointing out that this is a unique opportunity.
X Drake, however, refuses, and the two attack each other. After the Beasts Pirates announce that a fire monster is heading underground, X Drake witnesses Apoo being knocked down by one of the two CP0 agents present, who reveals that he knows his true identity. X Drake argues that in that case, they owe him an apology. However, the opponent attacks him but is hit by Apoo.
The two then team up against the government agents, and he resorts to his animal form. He is, however, defeated. After the defeat of the two emperors, he is joined by Hawkins, who asks him if he is a Marine, to which he replies that even if he were, he wouldn't say so. Drake then asks him if he was talking about himself when he predicted someone only had a 1% chance of survival, which Hawkins confirms before expiring.
