One Piece: Usopp Meets His Father and Here's What You Need to Know About Their Relationship!

We've told you many times that the Straw Hats have some very interesting stories behind them, and that their personal stories are quite intriguing. In this article, we'll talk about Usopp's journey, which is, first and foremost, a story filled with many lies. It's also a very interesting story, which is why we'll present it in this article, in which you'll discover Usopp's relationship with his father, Yasopp, in One Piece.
While it wasn't a true reunion, Usopp and Yasopp did meet and synchronize in One Piece Film: Red, which happened when Usopp used his Observation Haki and finally "met" his father after so much time. Of course, it wasn't a proper reunion, like the ones that are sure to happen later in the series, and the canonical status of this scene is also a matter of debate. Now, even though Yasopp abandoned Usopp, he loves him very much, and Usopp loves his father despite this and is actually very proud of his accomplishments, which is why this is one of the most specific relationships in the series.
The rest of this article will delve deeper into the relationship between Usopp and Yasopp, explaining whether they've ever met in the series and what kind of relationship they actually have as father and son. It's an interesting duo that can't be denied, but some details require further explanation, which is why we've written this article for you. Of course, there will be some spoilers, so be careful how you approach this text.
Usopp knows that Yasopp is with Shanks, but despite this, he loves and respects him.
Usopp doesn't really need a proper introduction. He's a member of Luffy's crew and one of the most well-known characters in the series. And while he has few, if any, powers, he's an excellent marksman, a resourceful liar, and a great inventor. But we know that much. Yasopp, on the other hand, is known as Usopp's father, but he has more to tell, and we'll tell you a little about him before getting into their relationship; this is, of course, important, as Yasopp's backstory is necessary if we're going to understand their relationship.
Twenty years before the beginning of the story, Yasopp saw a ship with a traveler on it from the cliff and said it was strange. The boy on board approached him and asked him, telling him his name was Shanks and that he was a pirate. He asked Yasopp to join his crew. This surprised him, but he didn't accept. Three years later, he became Usopp's father. While Usopp was still a child, Yasopp left home to become a pirate thanks to the insistence of his wife, who convinced him to pursue his dreams. He eventually joined Shanks's crew.
Eleven years before the beginning of the story, during the assault on a World Government ship with CP9 on board, Lucky Roux found the Gomu Gomu no Mi. Yasopp then reached Foosha with the crew, which became the base of their journey. There, he met Luffy, who repeatedly asked to take him with them. One day, he placed an apple on a table in the street and hit it with a ball, earning praise for his skill from the child. He told him he could hit an ant's antennae from a hundred meters away without harming the rest of the animal.
He told Luffy on several occasions that he had a son his own age, and during one of these conversations, while drunk at Partys Bar, it was actually a touch of fate, as Luffy would eventually recruit Yasopp's son, Usopp, for his crew, which was an interesting narrative moment.
During one of these conversations, while also drunk, he climbed onto the chair, saying that there was nothing else he could do for one reason: the pirate flag was calling him. This is how he explained that he had abandoned his son.
So, as you can see, Yasopp didn't abandon Usopp because he was a bad father. He did it at the insistence of his wife and Usopp's mother, who pushed him to pursue his dreams. That's why, although his father left them when Usopp was still a child, Usopp doesn't feel any hatred towards him; on the contrary, he feels respect and admiration for his choice to pursue his dream.
Besides both being pirates, the trait that unites them is that they are both skilled marksmen. Yasopp also loves his son very much, and he feels guilty for abandoning him, even though Usopp doesn't blame him for it, which is why Yasopp still isn't ready to meet him, even though he wants to. Usopp, of course, knows his father's whole story, which is why he's so proud of him.
Usopp and Yasopp have met, but it's not what everyone expects.
Now, if you're wondering if Usopp and Yasopp have ever met, we can indeed say that they have, but it's not what you'd expect. Namely, in One Piece Film: Red, while the Straw Hats were fighting Uta, Shanks's crew also arrived, and the two crews briefly united to defeat the demon Uta had summoned; during this battle, Usopp used his Observation Haki, and with it, he finally saw his father, and the two "reunited" for a few seconds during the fight.
They never really talked or anything, and Usopp only really saw his father through Haki, so it's not a real reunion, and it's not a real reunion. But it happened. Of course, the canon status of the movie is debatable, but we can use this situation as a reference here.
But we're sure that's not what Oda has planned for us. Usopp and Yasopp's reunion has been discussed for years now, and while we know they're following each other, we don't know if they're ready for a reunion.
Yasopp has openly stated that he isn't ready yet, but we don't really know Usopp's side of the story. We can even assume that Usopp would like to meet his father, and because of this, we're sure that a real reunion with a true heart-to-heart between the two will happen in the future.
When? Well, that's an answer we don't have for you, but based on some in-universe comments, as well as the fact that One Piece is in its final saga, we're guessing it's going to happen relatively soon, so we're very excited to see what Oda has in store for us in that regard. And that's the whole storyline between Usopp and Yasopp.
