One Piece: Here's When Luffy Learned to Use Each Haki

Along with Son Goku, Ash Ketchum, and probably Naruto, if there's one anime and manga character who doesn't need a detailed introduction, it's One Piece's protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy. Luffy is the leader of the Straw Hat Pirates and is one of the most recognizable brands in the world of anime and manga, which explains his popularity. He has grown a lot as a character. He is undoubtedly one of the strongest characters in the series, which is why this article will focus on his powers and abilities. Namely, in this article, we will reveal when Luffy learned the three types of Haki he can use.
When did Luffy learn Observation Haki?
Luffy learned to use Observation Haki during the time skip. With this, he is able to sense the presence, emotions, and intentions of others, and it greatly aids his reflexes in avoiding attacks such as bullets. He first uses this technique in the Marineford arc, subconsciously anticipating the risks of a frontal attack from Mihawk.
After the time skip, he uses it to dodge the Pacifista's laser beams in the Sabaody Archipelago and Hody Jones's Yabusame on Fish-Man Island. During the Whole Cake Island Arc, Luffy battles Charlotte Katakuri, a gentle general of the Big Mom Pirates. The latter has trained his perceptual fluid so much that he can see a few seconds into the future, so this advantage over Luffy allows him to completely outclass him.
As the fight progresses, the Straw Hat Pirates gradually increase their Observation Haki until they finally reach Katakuri's. Since then, Luffy is now able to see a little into the future, as demonstrated at the end of the fight against Katakuri or on Wano, where he uses his perceptual fluid to give Hyogoro precise instructions during the fight against the Beasts Pirates. Later, he envisions a future he describes as "very dark," a consequence of Babanuki's pandemic shot, and thus intervenes before it happens.
When did Luffy learn Armament Haki?
Luffy learned to use Armament Haki during his two years of training with Silvers. This technique is used to add power to a blow and is very effective against a Devil Fruit user. Luffy used Armament Haki against a Pacifista in the Sabaody Archipelago. He defeated him in one blow, whereas before the time skip, his entire crew had difficulty defeating one.
Although Luffy had mastered Armament Haki to a high level after two years of training, he further advanced it during his fight against Charlotte Katakuri, Big Mom's right-hand woman, who surpassed Luffy in every way. Since his training in Wano's Udon Prison, Luffy has been able to use a superior version of Armament Haki: Ryuo, which allows him to externalize his Haki from his arms to cause damage from a distance.
When did Luffy learn Conqueror's Haki?
Luffy can also use the rarest of all Haki, Conqueror's Haki. During his first use of this ability, Luffy knocked Motobaro, Duval's bison, unconscious. However, it was revealed that Luffy only possessed Conqueror's Haki during his adventures on Amazon Lily, as he initially used it unconsciously. He also uses it during the Battle of Marineford to prevent Ace's execution: all the Marines and pirates around him faint, as well as the two executioners who were about to cut off his brother's head.
After two years of training with Silvers, Luffy managed to master Conqueror's Haki. He used it incredibly on Fish-Man Island, where he knocked out 50,000 of the 100,000 Fish-Men, all ten times the strength of a human, with a single blow. The Straw Hat also had a Conqueror's Haki duel against Don Chinjao and Doflamingo. He has since used it multiple times and against several other opponents.
