Pleiades Watchtower - Re:Zero
The Pleiades Watchtower was created by the sage Flugel centuries before the beginning of history. It serves many purposes, but the most important is to sit above the Evil Sealing Stone Shrine that keeps Satella sealed. As such, the tower's current guardian and keeper, Shaula , dispatches and discourages most people who attempt to visit it using lethal force. In addition to this, the tower is also a large library with vast amounts of recorded knowledge, and once an individual enters the tower, they are locked into a series of exams or trials in order to gain access to the various libraries spread across its floors.
The Pleiades Watchtower is located in the Augrian Sand Dunes (Auguria), which are themselves located in the Kingdom of Lugnica . This location serves as the main backdrop for the events that take place in Arc 6 , and as such, most of the information here is not yet finalized, as it was only described in the technically non-canonical web novel version. Even in this form, the story of this arc is not yet concluded.
Appearance
From the sand dunes and beyond, a defense mechanism known as the Hour of Sand , the tower appears simply as a silhouette that never changes position, shape, or form, no matter how far you move away from it. Those who successfully pass the Hour of Sand mechanism find themselves in a flowery meadow filled with Oiranguma Demonic Beasts . From there, the tower's facade can be seen. It is a circular stone tower a few hundred meters tall with a balcony protruding from one of the floors. There is also a huge door at the base of the tower that leads inside.
Tower floors
The Pleiades Watchtower consists of several floors, each with its own name and unique design. Each floor is named after the seven sisters of the Pleiades in mythology.
Asterope
Although known as the sixth floor, this is actually the basement of the Pleiades Watchtower. This floor is a circular chamber with a spacious radius of 200 to 300 meters. Its walls are white, and the room is lit by magic lamps and glowing moss. The passage leading to Celaeno is a spiral staircase along the outer edges of the room.
Celano
Celaeno is the fifth and ground floor of the Pleiades Watchtower. The aforementioned giant door located at the base of the tower leads to this floor, which is a giant room devoid of any distinctive signs. The door itself responds to a mechanical opening system that is activated by touch. A large spiral staircase leads to Alycone and descends to Asterope.
Alcyone
Alcyone, the fourth floor, is the first floor above ground of the Pleiades Watchtower. It is composed of a multitude of rooms, including Shaula's living quarters and a dining room with clean water from a well. It also houses a special room known as the Green Room . There, a spirit grants healing to all who enter it. This floor also leads to the balcony visible from the outside, which Shaula uses to observe the surroundings. There are three exits from this floor: the spiral staircase leading down to Celaeno, a staircase leading up to Taygeta, and another staircase leading up to Electra.
Taygeta
The third floor of Taygeta is located two stories above ground level. This floor features a trial. When you enter the area, the floor is simply a completely white room with a single monolith inside. Touching the monolith activates the trial, in which the room is populated with a series of monoliths representing the stars and their constellations. The challenge is to touch the brightest of the heroes destroyed by Shaula. The correct answer relies on otherworldly knowledge (as these constellations are from our world and do not exist there) and actually involves touching the monolith that represents the star Rigel. Successfully completing the trial transforms the sterile white room into Taygeta's Library, which contains books of the dead and can lead to the Hall of Memories. The only exit from this level is the staircase leading down to Alcyone.
Electra
Electra, the second floor, is located three stories above ground level. Upon entering the floor, a sword is seen in the middle of the room. Touching it initiates the second Watchtower trial, where Reid Astrea materializes. Reid must be forced to give way during the fight. Electra is accessed directly from Alcyone via a staircase, and a staircase leads to Maia if the trial is completed.
Maya
Maia, the first and four floors above ground of the Pleiades Watchtower, is the summit of the tower. Volcanica administers the final test here and is accessible via a staircase from Electra.
Merope
The existence of Merope, known as Floor Zero, was initially hidden by Shaula and even when it was discovered, she refused to provide any information about it.
Under the tower
There is a system of tunnels and caves beneath the Pleiades Watchtower that houses Gabaou , the demonic beasts polluted by powerful miasma. There is a gate that acts as the source of the miasma adorned with seven jewels. Shaula refers to something called the Sand Sanctuary in the area.
Rules and tests
Emily noted that there were similarities between the trials in the Pleiades Watchtower and those in the Sanctuary Barrier in the Witch of Greed's Graveyard, implying some connection to the Witch of Greed herself, Echidna None.
In addition to the trials, there are five rules to follow in the tower, lest Shaula transform into a scorpion and start killing everyone. The rules are as follows:
- It is forbidden to leave the tower without having completed the tests
- It is forbidden to violate the rules of the tests
- It is forbidden to disrespect libraries
- It is forbidden to damage the tower
- It is not forbidden to destroy the proofs
