Synopsis

Tokyo's Akatsuki Special Zone—a lawless area abandoned by the government. The only ones who can protect the zone are the Scard, tattooed individuals with the sealed powers of the gods. Helios, Artemis, and the Special Public Security Service all face a variety of challenges every day and fight to overcome them. The bonds they form aren't ones of hatred or anger, but of trust. This is the story of how they become friends and learn to trust each other.

Background

Project Scard: Scar on the Praeter is an original mixed media project by Frontier Works that includes drama CDs, character songs, internet radio broadcasts, and a television anime. The anime was announced by Frontier Works in September 2020. It is produced by GoHands and stars Shingo Suzuki as director and character designer, Tamazo Yanagi as storyboard artist, Keiji Tani and Makoto Furuta as chief animation directors, Hiroshi Okubo as mechanical designer, and Conisch and GOON TRAX composing the music. The anime premiered on January 8, 2021, on MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS. It is available for streaming online via Funimation (North America, British Isles), Wakanim (Europe), and AnimeLab (Australia, New Zealand).

Characters

Yamato-kai (Voice of: Arthur Lounsbery)
A 20-year-old man who lives with his brother-in-law Minato in "B1," an area of the Akatsuki Special Zone where illegal residents gather. He doesn't speak much and seems cold at first, but he has a strong sense of justice and doesn't hesitate to offer his help when needed. He was saved four years ago during the Akatsuki Rebellion by Eiji and has admired him ever since.

Eiji Arashiba (Voice of: Atsushi Kousaka)
The 24-year-old leader of Helios is the Akatsuki Special Zone's troubleshooting team. He is the "Hero of Akatsuki" who helped fight to protect the zone during the Akatsuki Rebellion four years ago. He is aloof but protective of his friends. He manages the Titan Bookstore Cafe but leaves the work to his younger brother, Kazuma.

Kagami Sakishima (Voice of: Junya Enoki)
A 23-year-old Scard who is a close friend of Eiji and a member of Helios. He is knowledgeable about tattoos, medicine, and sorcery. He isn't very skilled in combat, so he plays more of a supporting role. At first glance, he appears to be gentle and kind. He is a former sergeant of Sakishima Holdings, who was originally supposed to oversee the Akatsuki Special Zone.

Kazuma Arashiba (Voice of: Shoya Chiba)
Eiji's 18-year-old brother-in-law who greatly admires him. He sometimes becomes emotional when he gets angry. He runs the Titan book cafe on Eiji's behalf. He is a Scard and a member of Team Helios.

Hokuto Kurama (Voice of: Katsumi Fukuhara)
The 23-year-old leader of Dusk, a criminal group with a strong presence in the Kanto region, is dangerous and willing to use any scheme to obtain money, even going so far as to kill his friends to satisfy his ambitions. He has set his sights on Helios to establish his position in the Akatsuki Special Zone.

Sakiyo Hræsvelgr (Voice of: Kenjiro Tsuda)
He owned the Hræsvelgr tattoo until three years ago. He fought alongside Azusa during the Akatsuki Rebellion. He is currently in charge of the orphanage where Ran and Jin grew up. He has a vast network of information.

Jin Karasue (Voice of: Sho Nogami)
A 21-year-old Scard and member of Artemis. He is the CEO of Artemis Finance alongside Ran, who is loyal to Azusa but a pain in the neck for everyone. He loves watching anime and often quotes it.

Ran Washimine (Voice of: Takeaki Masuyama)
A 21-year-old Scard, a member of Artemis. He is the general manager of Artemis Finance, a large company in the Akatsuki Special Zone. He is loyal to the company's leader, Azusa. He is confident and hardworking, but also takes care of his personal life.

Kouga Tatsuma (Voiced by: Taku Yashiro)
A 36-year-old police officer from the Special Public Security Service who monitors Scards. He is a Scard himself. Others see him as a good-natured person, but in reality, he is willing to do anything to achieve his goal. He gives advice to his colleague Itsuki, but it is never taken seriously.

Itsuki Torataka (Voice of: Tasuku Hatanaka)
A 17-year-old police officer from the Special Public Security Service who monitors the Scards. He is a Scard himself. He is very skilled in combat and is able to manipulate tattoos. He is fed up with Kouga's overly familiar attitude.

Morrigan Sakiyo (Voice of: Yoji Ueda)
He owned Morrigan's tattoo until three years ago. He fought alongside Azusa during the Akatsuki Rebellion. He wants to help Azusa because of her shortened lifespan.

Minato Kai (Voice of: Yoshitaka Yamaya)
Yamato's 14-year-old stepbrother. He lost his parents four years ago during the Akatsuki Rebellion. He met Yamato around that time, and they became brother and sister. He lives with Yamato and is responsible for the household chores. He is cheerful and outspoken, but also a bit of an airhead. He has a lot of respect for Yamato and is conflicted about not being able to help him.

Mikado Banri (Voice of: Jun Fukuyama)
A 24-year-old Scard and one of the original members of Helios, along with Eiji and Kagami. He currently appears to be traveling. He is free-spirited and fun-loving. Although he often jokes, he is conscientious of those around him and serves as Helios' emotional support.

Azusa Yuki (Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya)
A 25-year-old Scard and the leader of Artemis. She is invincible at night thanks to her ability to transform moonlight into anything, but she is weak during the day. She also has a short lifespan. She has a feminine appearance and a refreshing, calm personality.
