Who is Trebol in One Piece? What is his Devil Fruit and who defeated him?

One Piece features a plethora of incredible characters and villains, and fans never really know how the rivalries will play out. Trebol seems to have finally been eliminated, but many fans are still wondering who Trebol is in One Piece, what his Devil Fruit is, and who defeated him.
Trebol is a staff officer of the Donquixote Pirates in One Piece, acting as Sugar's bodyguard and also serving as the leader of the crew's Trebol Army subdivision. He possesses the Beta Beta no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, and has fostered cruelty from a young age, making him indirectly responsible for the Donquixote family's anger. He appears to have been defeated by Usopp's Shuriken, which slices him into pieces, but Law defeats him and Trebol causes a large explosion as a last resort.
Although Trebol posed a host of threats to the main characters of One Piece, with his Devil Fruit and powers causing tons of problems for the Straw Hat Pirates, it seems he has been defeated. Stick around to find out everything you need to know about Trebol, including his background, his Devil Fruit, and how he was ultimately eliminated.
Who is Trebol in One Piece?
Trebol is one of the top three officers of the Donquixote Pirates in the One Piece universe, primarily serving as a staff officer. He is also personally responsible for fostering Donquixote Doflamingo's cruelty from a young age, indirectly making him the cause of an extremely large amount of harm and suffering caused by Doflamingo's brutal and ruthless attitude.

As a result, Trebol is considered a type of antagonist in the One Piece storyline, primarily in the Dressrosa arc, having a greater influence and impact than many fans expected when he first appeared. Trebol holds the Donquixote Family Club seat, acts as Sugar's bodyguard, and is also the leader of the crew's Trebol Army subdivision.
Trebol also has an unlikable personality, as he is obnoxious, truly insensitive, and bold in every way. He shows no signs of sensitivity or morality in many situations, such as when he casually asks if Doflamingo killed another of his fiancés.
He is also very violent and often goes on rampages without considering the potential consequences of his actions. Trebol is rather hot-headed and can be quite rude and disrespectful to his subordinates, including those with a deeper connection to Doflamingo and the Donquixote family.
But he is incredibly defensive of his family—despite being callous and cruel, Trebol does not tolerate anyone who insults or threatens his loved ones. This is seen several times throughout One Piece's story, such as when he launches an entire ship toward the officers' tower in order to defend Sugar—all without considering the damage or possible harm caused to Sugar.
What is Trebol's Devil Fruit?
Trebol possesses a rather unique yet bizarre and quite powerful Devil Fruit, which allows him to produce a sticky, mucus-like substance. While his character is already unkempt and ragged with a constantly runny nose, the presence of mucus dripping down the rest of his body makes him even more unattractive.
He didn't always have his strange and aggressive mucus abilities, but he did have a runny nose since he was a child. According to the One Piece Wiki:
"Trebol ate the Beta Beta no Mi, a Paramecia-type devil fruit, which gives him the ability to create and control mucus. His mucus is very thick and has a high stickiness.
His sticky mucus is incredibly thick and so adhesive that it allows him to cling to flat surfaces regardless of the force of gravity, including walls and ceilings. He can also use this mucus to cling to other people and objects as large as ships, and his mucus can hold people with enough force to suffocate them in the process.

What makes his mucus even more difficult to manage is the fact that it's a flammable substance and can explode if it comes into contact with a single spark. Trebol is infamous for changing the color of his mucus to fool others as well, and he even uses it to create baggy clothes that make him look much taller—he's actually quite thin.
Why does Trebol have chains?
Trebol's appearance is incredibly strange, as he is well-known for his posture and strange clothing, which makes him resemble a giant snail. Although he is extremely thin, his clothing and trimmings give him a very bulky and muscular appearance, topped off with his chains, which have fascinated fans for ages.
In reality, these aren't necessarily chains, but rather medium-length chained shackles. There have been tons of questions about why he wears chains, especially since some moments in the past depict Trebol wearing sandals—he just started wearing no shoes and chained shackles at some point.

Trebol wears one of these chains on each of his ankles, and they are not connected to each other. There are several theories as to why Trebol is chained (or partially chained), but many fans believe it has to do with his status and history.
"Many of us thought that the Don Quixote family were all former slaves and that Trebol had chains was one of the allusions, but now we have no idea why he has them."
According to fans on Reddit, at least some members of Donquixote Doflamingo's family were slaves of the Tenryubito. If this were to include Trebol, it's possible that his Devil Fruit and sticky mucus made it impossible to remove the remnants of the chain and restraint from his body.
The other theory revolves around Trebol being a slave in the present day, mainly for Sugar as he is Sugar's bodyguard. Sugar wears a crown indicating royalty, while Trebol is barefoot with chains, which could be a way of indicating that Trebol is Sugar's slave. Regardless, past or present slavery seems to be the most common reason for Trebol wearing chains.
Who defeated Trebol?
As Trebol went on a rampage, causing massive destruction and terror, the Straw Hat Pirates' sharpshooter was the one who finally put an end to it—or at least, that's what it looked like. Usopp seemed to have defeated Trebol once and for all with a single special attack, but it has since been proven that this wasn't the final blow. Law appears to be the one who defeated Trebol.
How does Usopp "defeat" Trebol?
Usopp attempted to escape the trading port after the dwarves' defeat, while Leo and his comrades tried to inform Trebol that "Usoland" (referring to Usopp) would save them. But their words were transmitted through the port via Den Den Mushi.
Trebol begins to mock the dwarves and starts trampling them, but Usopp eventually returns and speaks to the dwarves. He tells them that he is not the hero of Usoland, that he was really lying, and declares that he is the Straw Hats' sharpshooter, identifying himself as Usopp.

That being said, Usopp realizes that he could never rest knowing that the dwarves were counting on him, so he finally decides to fight and defend them. Usopp then throws a new green pop at Trebol, named Hissatsu Midori Boshi: Platanus Shuriken, while telling Trebol that it is time to sink or swim.
The attack then cuts Trebol into pieces—specifically, into three parts. But there's more to it than meets the eye, according to One Piece fans on Reddit.
"I thought the consensus was that he was a paramecium user who wore thick clothing to conceal his body. When he gets sliced like that, he moves his body under the clothing to avoid being hit.
Many fans also believe that Trebol may have changed the color of his slime to mimic body parts—moving and controlling them to fool everyone. To be honest, it would be quite unexpected for Usopp to defeat Trebol so easily.

Trebol continued to appear and was eventually cut by Law with a radio knife. According to Comic Book:
Trebol immobilizes Luffy and Law and explains how he and the other three Donquixote executives found Doflamingo and raised him to become the man he is today. Law mocks Trebol, causing the executive to angrily attack him. However, Law defeats him, and Trebol causes a large explosion as a last resort.
In which episode is Trebol defeated?
Trebol was initially thought to have been "defeated" by Usopp in One Piece episode 674, titled "Liar Usoland on the Run!" The entire episode follows the story of the dwarves, who are awaiting the arrival of a hero named Usoland. Usopp gets caught up in the mix and is identified as the hero they were waiting for, but he proves honest and still fights for them in the end.
It appears that he actually survived Usopp's attack and was only "defeated" in the interim. Trebol makes another major appearance in One Piece episode 724, titled "Unassailable - Trebol's Stunning Secret," where Law cuts him with a radio knife.
