Reg Made in Abyss - Nendoroid

The Made in Abyss franchise began as a dark fantasy adventure manga written by Akihito Tsukushi and published in 2012. After the manga's serialization, the series quickly gained popularity due to its fascinating and mysterious world and deceptively cute character designs. This popularity grew even more after the manga received an anime adaptation by Kinema Citrus in 2017. Shortly after the anime series, a wide range of merchandise was announced, one of the most sought-after being collectible figurines of its main characters. Among the Made in Abyss characters, Reg is one of the most notable, as his mysterious past and desire to see Riko's dreams come true make him very endearing to fans. So, as with several other Made in Abyss characters, a Nendoroid titled "Nendoroid Made in Abyss Reg" was released by Good Smile Company in 2019.

This adorable Nendoroid of Reg takes the already chibi style of most of the characters in the series and transforms him into a wonderful figure with many customization options. He wears his usual outfit, which consists of his horned helmet, lavender and teal stockings, and tattered red cape. Additional parts included in this set are arm pieces with his extended robotic hand, an incinerator effect piece, and three different face plates. These face plates allow the owner of this figure to change Reg's expression from a happy smile to a cold stare, and then to an embarrassed look. Reg's helmet and cape can also be removed, adding even more posing possibilities.

About Reg

Reg is a character with largely unknown origins but is a major character in Made in Abyss, as he is the first companion Riko gains during her journey into the Abyss.

About Reg: History

Although Reg's backstory is largely unknown due to his complete amnesia, characters like Riko speculate that he comes from the bottom of the abyss. The reason for this is that he shares some aspects of a sketch found in the journal of Riko's mother, who was a legendary White Whistle Delver. That said, Riko and Reg suddenly meet after she is attacked by a Crimson Splitjaw while exploring what was supposed to be a safe section of the abyss. Unable to defend herself, Reg jumped in with his incinerator to eliminate the threat. After Riko decides to descend into the abyss, Reg follows her and acts as her protector, as Riko is young and fragile. Although a capable fighter, Reg himself can be very naive and childish, which often makes him easily angered, especially around Riko.

About Reg: Abilities

While Riko could easily be considered the brains of the group due to her vast knowledge and understanding of the Abyss, Reg is truly the muscle. His skill and fighting abilities make him a wonderful protector for Riko throughout their journey, though he clearly lacks experience. In addition to being generally durable and strong, Reg also has the ability to extend his robotic arms to attack and grapple objects approximately 40 meters away. Additionally, Reg can also fire a devastating incinerator beam. Specific details about the incinerator are unknown, but its destructive power is virtually unrivaled. That said, using the incinerator has a limited number of uses and can cause Reg to faint after firing the beam.

Other important characters in Made in Abyss

Throughout the journey to the bottom of the abyss, there are two characters who are particularly important to Reg, who are Riko and Nanachi None.

Riko

Riko is the young protagonist of Made in Abyss and the daughter of Lyza, the researcher with the white whistle, who is known throughout the surface for her contributions to the understanding of the Abyss. Although still very young, Riko's energetic personality and bottomless curiosity about the Abyss lead her to want nothing more than to travel to the bottom of the Abyss to find her mother and learn more about the Abyss itself, even if it means almost certain death. Because Riko has access to many of Lyza's notes and journals, she has a better understanding of the Abyss than most, which constantly serves her and Reg on their journey.

Nanachi

Nanachi is a Hollow who was once a human born in a land north of the Abyss. At some point, she was taken by the White Whistle, Bondrewd, and underwent inhumane experiments to learn the effects of the Abyss's curse on humans. Here, Nanachi met Mitty, and the two quickly became friends. As a result of these experiments, however, both Nanachi and Mitty were greatly deformed by the curse, transforming them into Hollows. While Nanachi remained humanoid, Mitty became an immortal mass of amorphous flesh. The two eventually escaped from Bondrewd and lived on the fourth layer of the Abyss. Here, Nanachi offered to save Riko, who had been poisoned by a deadly Orb Piercer, in exchange for Reg killing Mitty, as Nanachi believed Mitty could only live a life of torment and suffering as a Hollow.
