Reiner Braun - Attack on Titan

He also possesses natural leadership skills and is an excellent support system for his comrades. Growing up in the same region as Bertolt, the two are close and are often seen together. He joined the 104th Training Corps and, upon graduation, ranked second in his class, second only to Mikasa Ackermann . After graduation, he joined the Survey Corps with Bertolt.

"I'm going back to the house that was taken from me. No matter what." Season 1 , Episode 3

Reiner often had the trust of his peers and was quick to offer a helping hand to others, such as Armin Arlelt as he struggled in a training march (Chapter 35, Volume 9).

During his time in the 104th Training Corps, he carefully crafted an image of reliability, bravery, and chivalry ( Attack on Titan Guide (p.57)). It is later revealed that Reiner is the person controlling theArmored Titan , which shocks everyone as he has cunningly deceived his entire group of comrades with his facade.

Although he has ulterior motives, the one thing that remains true about Reiner's character is his strong passion and determination to complete his mission, even if it meant killing his comrades and destroying the relationships he had built during his time in the 104th Training Corps.

Profile

  • Name: Reiner Braun
  • Date of birth: August 1st
  • Height: 185 cm
  • Weight: 95 kg
  • Place of birth: Mountain village southeast of Wall Maria

Personality

Reiner is initially perceived as calm, collected, loyal, and reliable, though less assertive than his peers. After gaining his Armored Titan powers, he becomes more self-assured and certain of his mission to return home and fulfill his duties in Operation Pardis.

We can see his conflicting personalities shine through in Season 3 Episode 15 of the anime series. At first, he is incredibly stubborn and passionate about accomplishing his goals, as he doesn't hesitate when faced with the idea of killing Marco.

Marco overhears Reiner and Bertholdt's conversation about their ability to transform into Titans and "the hole [they] opened." Upon hearing this, Marco is puzzled and still does not fully grasp the truth of the situation he has stumbled upon. However, Reiner pursues Marco, as he sees him as an immediate threat to their plans, which they have patiently planned and executed.

Reiner attacks Marco and pins him to a rooftop with his hand behind his back. With Marco having become a witness to their secrets, Reiner felt it was necessary to kill Marco, as it could jeopardize their entire operation. This leads him to say, "We can't let him live."

Reiner asks Annie to remove Marco's vertical maneuvering gear, as she also wants to test his loyalty. Reiner suspects that she sympathizes too much with the enemies, as Reiner recalls a scene where it shows her helping Connie Springer. To prove her own resolve, Annie removes her gear while Reiner holds her arms. In doing so, Marco is stranded on a rooftop without any equipment to escape. With nowhere to go and no way to protect himself, Marco is eventually eaten by a Titan.

The three look back and witness Marco's death, an event that surprisingly shocks them.

For a brief second, Reiner wonders, "Why is Marco being eaten?", showing genuine distress at the thought of his comrade being eaten. The scene then cuts back to the present, where Reiner seems more certain than ever that killing Marco was the right thing to do, with a face that shows no remorse as he recalls the event.

Reiner had bonded with his comrades in the 104th Training Corps over the past few years, earning their trust and loyalty. However, even before joining the 104th Corps, he knew he had a mission to accomplish and objectives to achieve, and if he had to kill people along the way, he would do so without hesitation.

Reiner becomes more determined throughout the series, but less human in return.

Armored Titan

In the year 845, the Marley nation chose Reiner to gain the powers of the Armored Titan None.

Reiner's Armored Titan stands approximately 15 meters tall and is equipped with hardened, skin-like armor that is impervious to conventional military weapons. The Armored Titan used its body to demolish Wall Maria by creating momentum and devastating power simply by ramming the wall with its body.

As stated in the Guide on page 57, Reiner Braun was considered someone who could have become a Survey Corps leader thanks to his determination, reliability, and troubled past that propelled him into the future. Reiner was also driven by a simple desire to return to his hometown.

Although seemingly slowed by his armor, the Armored Titan remains a formidable opponent due to his mobility and ability to move freely and nimbly when fighting Eren as a Titan.
