Return to Shiganshina Arc - Attack on Titan
Return to Shiganshina is the seventh story arc of the Attack on Titan series created, written, and illustrated by Hajime Isayama . In the manga , the Return to Shiganshina arc spans from chapter 71 to chapter 90. As for its television anime series counterpart, it spans episodes 49 to 59. This arc follows the Uprising arc in the storyline.
The Return to Shiganshina arc begins in the city where it all began, where humanity's enemies, the Titans, first appeared and the inhabitants of the Walls received a grim reminder of the Titans' destructive power. Under the command of Erwin Smith , the Survey Corps plans to launch a counterattack.
Summary
Two months after Reiss's rise to the throne, the Survey Corps begins its movement to reclaim Wall Maria in the Shiganshina District and find the truth about the world hidden in Eren Jaeger 's former home. However, the soldiers are completely unaware that the enemy has prepared an ambush there.
After leaving the Trost District in the morning and crossing Titan territory for an entire night, the Survey Corps manages to reach Shiganshina in the early morning. Once there, the mission to seal the breaches in Wall Maria begins, led by Eren. The Colossal Titan's blocking of the opening is successful, and consequently the sealing of the hole opened by the Armored Titan is also achieved. Things get complicated when Reiner Braun is discovered by a soldier inside the Wall. Although Levi attempts to kill him, he fails, and Reiner ends up transforming into a Titan. In response, Eren does the same, and the two begin a battle inside the district, which ends with the Armored Titan being taken down with a new weapon developed by Hange Zoë , the Lightning Lance.
On the other hand, Zeke Jaeger becomes theBeast Titan and transforms several people into Titans. With the help of the Chariot Titan , he blocks the Survey Corps' escape routes by separating the soldiers from their horses, then launches his own attack by throwing rocks around the neighborhood, killing several soldiers. After hearing the roar of Shiganshina's Armored Titan 's help, Zeke picks up a barrel containing Bertolt Hoover and throws it at Reiner Bertolt's location. Bertolt falls there and after being confronted by his former teammates, he transforms into the Colossal Titan generating an explosion and destroying everything around him.
The Beast Titan is defeated by Levi Ackerman in a suicide plan ordered by Erwin Smith , in which the remaining soldiers die. Simultaneously, Bertolt, in this Titan form, is confronted by Eren with the help of Armin, who was fatally burned while acting as a distractor, and Reiner falls once again to a joint attack by Hange and Mikasa Ackerman . Although Levi initially decided to use the Titan serum he had on Erwin, he ultimately chose to use it on Armin , who transformed into a Titan, devours Bertolt and gains the power of the Colossus Titan, saving himself from death. After the remaining enemies flee, Eren, Mikasa, Hange, and Levi arrive at the ruins of his former home. Once there, they enter the basement, where they discover all about Grisha Jaeger's mysterious past and the true origins of the Titans.
