Ricardo Welkin is the leader of the Iron Fang mercenary group and a member of the Anastasia Camp. He is a large, muscular anthropomorphic wolf with brown fur, a long brown tail, turquoise eyes, a dark brown beard, and long, dark brown hair. Ricardo wears long black pants tied with a red cord, a leather shoulder guard decorated with the symbol of the Hoshin Trading Company , a black strap across his body, and black armguards with bandages underneath. He has a prosthetic hook in place of the arm he lost during his fight withRoy Alphard in Priestelle during Arc 5. Ricardo is friendly, relaxed, and boisterous, speaking loudly in a Kansai dialect. He is known to joke around just before a battle, which he does to reduce tension and soothe his teammates' nerves.
History
In his previous life, Ricardo was a slave. One day, he rescued young Anastasia from the clutches of slave traders and even found her a job as a waitress. She vowed to remove his collar and was eventually able to buy her freedom. He, in turn, showed his gratitude to Anastasia and stood by her as she rose from nothing to the top of the mercantile world.
While Ricardo starts out as a bodyguard, he eventually finds himself as the leader of the Iron Fang mercenary group—composed primarily of beast-humans. He stood by as Anastasia entered the royal selection and answered the call to lead the assault on her behalf during the manhunt for White Whale . Although he was injured in the fight, he continues to help attack the witch cult and Petelgeuse after being healed by Felix None.
Ricardo is next seen in Priestella when Anastasia gathers all the royal candidates, which coincides with an attack on the city by numerous Archbishops of Sin. He unfortunately loses an arm fighting Roy and now uses a prosthetic hook instead.
Relationships
Anastasia Hoshin - Ricardo and Anastasia have been close friends for over 10 years, having helped each other escape slavery. He leads Anastasia's personal demi-human mercenary group, the Iron Fangs .
Julius Juukulius - Julius shows respect to Ricardo as a friend and comrade, despite the class difference between them. Ricardo worked hard to encourage Julius when he doubted himself during the events of Arc 5. Ricardo sacrificed his arm to protect Julius during their fight with Roy Alphard.
Mimi, Tivey, and Hetaro Pearlbaton - Ricardo acts as a father figure to them, adopting them after they were abandoned by their parents. Ricardo cares deeply for them, even going so far as to disobey Anastasia's orders by searching for Mimi on his own when she goes missing.
Garfield's Garland - Ricardo was initially suspicious of Garfield, but soon warmed up to him after Garfield saved Mimi from dying.
Subaru Natsuki - Ricardo got along well with Subaru during their battle with the White Whale , with Ricardo protecting Subaru by taking a hit from the Hakugei in his place, as well as giving Subaru advice that allowed him to defeat the beast.
Otto Suwen - Ricardo helped calm Otto's nerves and gave him the motivation not to give up while he was held captive during Arc 3. None
Reisel - Ricardo and Reisel helped each other while they were both in a slave prison. However, Reisel organized a slave rebellion but did not include Ricardo, which led to Reisel escaping from the prison and Ricardo being left to be punished by the slavers. Reisel later apologized to Ricardo for this, but betrayed him again soon after.
SKILLS
Demi-Human Senses - Ricardo has heightened senses of hearing and smell, and has a sense of sight far superior to that of humans.
Resonance Wave - Ricardo is able to fire a destructive beam of mana from his mouth. This ability places a heavy burden on him, and if used too much, it can cause him to vomit blood and develop large cuts around his mouth.
Ricardo's weapon of choice is a two-handed, axe-like sword. He rides a large liger in combat for its incredible agility and endurance.
