Rui - Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

Rui (累) was born in a very weak and fragile human body many years ago, but upon being reborn as a demon, he is a member of the Twelve Demon Moons and holder of the Lower Moon Five. He is the founder of his Spider Demon Family and assumed the position of the youngest member of the family as a child. His body was so fragile as a child that it was impossible for him to move. He accepted Muzan Kibutsuji 's offer to become a demon in order to obtain a strong body. His true family included his father, mother, and himself. One day, after his parents saw that Rui wanted to kill and eat others, they decided to commit suicide to atone for their sins. Rui, however, killed his parents at the last minute but also broke the only true family connection he had. He meets Tanjiro Kamado in search of a true family relationship in order to take Nezuko. His Japanese voice actor is Koki Uchiyama, and he makes his anime debut in episode 15.

Appearance

Rui has the appearance of a young boy, his skin is pale white with red dots all over his face. His hair is styled in a spider-like pattern with bangs that cover his left eye, the same color as his skin. The sclera of his eyes are red and his irises are pale blue, but notably on his left eye, he has the kanji for the number five signifying his rank. He wears a traditional-looking yukata with a spiderweb pattern on the sleeves and a black obi wrapped around his waist, matching the rest of his "family."

Personality

Rui is someone who wanted a stable family with the same strong bonds. He yearns for the familial bond he dreamed of at the cost of repeated abuse within his family. His power is the greatest in his family, and he uses it to torment those close to him, forcing them to be burned by the sun if they go against his wishes. Due to his incredible strength, he behaves in an all-powerful manner and is aware of his influence. Although he is incredibly cruel and arrogant, he is receptive to the language he hears directed at him. When he sees Nezuko Kamado sacrifice herself to save Tanjiro, he exhibits emotional instability and becomes obsessed with forming a relationship with her.

Background story

Rui was born many years ago with a fragile, delicate, and easily exhausted body, so much so that even the simple tasks of walking and breathing were difficult for him to accomplish, forcing him to spend most of his life confined to his home, cared for by his mother and father who, given his fragility, loved and respected him deeply. One night, Muzan Kibutsuji confronted Rui, who then tried to "save" him and transformed him into a demon.

Now that he possessed a strong body, Rui was finally able to move freely for the first time, bringing joy and happiness to his parents. This did not last, however, as he was now a demon Rui needing to feed by eating humans, which led him to kill a human in his house. His parents were then confronted with this horrific scene, instantly horrified by their son's misdeeds. That night, his father and mother decided that Rui should be punished and attempted to kill him in his sleep so that he would not be able to do anything like this in the future. His father then managed to sneak up on him with a knife and told him not to worry, as he was already planning to kill himself as his mother sobbed and cried outside his room.

However, Rui awoke and, angered by their assassination attempt, killed them both in self-defense, rationalizing that his real parents would never try to kill him and thus considered them fake in denial. Nevertheless, as his mother lay dying, Rui heard her regretfully apologize to Rui for not being able to give her a healthy body before her death. This then led him to remember his father's last words, suggesting that by sacrificing himself, he and his wife would carry Rui into the afterlife, making him realize that his parents had always cherished him and only sought to prevent him from becoming a monster.

Rui relied on the lie that his connection to his family was false. When he received encouraging words from Muzan, who dismissed his initial argument that they couldn't truly be his relatives because he didn't accept his status as a demon, he convinced him to seek out a new one.

SKILLS

Demonic Abilities - He received a greater amount of Muzan Kibutsuji's blood, allowing him to possess incredible power. His body is incredibly durable and difficult to cut, surpassing the threads he creates. Easily being able to physically overpower his enemies with simple actions like kicks demonstrates his enhanced strength. As one of the Twelve Demonic Moons, Rui possesses powerful regeneration, where after being cut, he exhibits no visible pain and is healed immediately.
Cellular Manipulation - Rui is able to create threads using his cells for both attack and defense. The sharpness and durability are powerful enough to easily break Tanjiro's Nichirin Blade. He also has the ability to change the physical appearance of other demons who consume his blood. He altered his "older sister's" appearance to match his own, which he did with the rest of his family.
Blood Demon Arts - At full power, he pumps his blood into his threads, increasing their sharpness and cutting ability. He is capable of using techniques involving these threads, such as creating a prison or cage around the target for offensive purposes.
