Synopsis

Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan 2 follows Kusuo Saiki, a less-than-normal high school student at PK Academy with a wide variety of psychic abilities, including telepathy, psychokinesis, and teleportation, as he faces all sorts of difficulties and desperately tries to live a normal life and avoid confrontation.

Background

This series began as a gag manga series written and illustrated by Shuuichi Asou in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump in June 2012. It ended in February 2018 after an incredible 24-volume run. It was then adapted into a flash anime in August 2013 before being adapted into a television anime in July 2016.

The original anime adaptation consisted of 24 episodes and was directed by Hiroaki Sakurai with Michiko Yokote writing the script and Psychic Lover composing the music. It was animated by JCStaff and EGG FIRM and released internationally by Funimation, including simultaneous subtitles and an English dub.

A live-action film adaptation starring Kento Yamazaki as Kusuo Saiki was released in Japan on October 21, 2017, and Weekly Shonen Jump also announced a new 4-koma title that began serialization on March 5, 2018.

Anime adaptation

Season 2 began airing on January 16, 2018. The original staff from the previous series returned for the 24-episode second season, including Hiroaki Sakurai ( Cromartie High School None Daa! Daa! Daa! ) as director, animation by JC Staff ( Bakuman . None A Certain Magical Index ) and FARM EGG ( Kino's Journey - The Beautiful World - None Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale ), and Masayuki Onji ( Majokko Tsukune-chan None Sweet Blue Flowers ) as character designer.

The opening theme is "Psilent Prisoner," performed by Hiroshi Kamiya, Daisuke Ono, and Nobunaga Shimazaki in character, and composed by Psychic Lover. Dempagumi.inc also returns to perform the ending theme, "Psai Hakkenden."

Characters

Kusuo Saiki (Japanese: Hiroshi Kamiya, Haruka Tomatsu (female form) / English: Jerry Jewell)
A high school student with a wide variety of psychic abilities despite his very ordinary parents. He wears two pink antennae on his head to limit his powers and green glasses because he can turn anyone who looks directly into his eyes to stone, and the attention he receives for his powers makes him absolutely miserable. He also only communicates telepathically.

Riki Nendou (Japanese: Daisuke Ono / English: David Wald)
Due to his appearance and troublemaking behavior, Riki is shunned in class and is so dumb that Kusuo can't read his mind. He calls Kusuo his "accomplice" and often invites him over for ramen. He has also wanted to be a carpenter since he was a child.

Shun Kaidou (Japanese: Nobunaga Shimazaki / English: Micah Solusod)
An arrogant and loud student who stands out more than everyone else in his class. He has an extremely exaggerated way of speaking and often ends up helping those in need. He's thin and may not be very athletic, but he's more or less intelligent.

Kineshi Hairo (Japanese: Satoshi Hino / English: Kyle Phillips)
The class representative who devotes himself fully to every task. He is well-liked by his classmates for his honest and passionate personality, but he sometimes goes too far. He sees Nendou as a rival and is also a member of the tennis club.

Reita Toritsuka (Japanese: Natsuki Hanae / English: Joel McDonald)
Reita has been able to see ghosts since childhood and can also talk to them. He doesn't seem like a bad guy at first glance, but he has a weakness for women and is in love with a ghost named Miyo-chan.

Kokomi Teruhashi (Japanese: Ai Kayano / English: Tia Ballard)
A beautiful young girl who attracts the attention of everyone around her. She is also extremely popular with the boys at her school, except for Kusuo, who is able to read her true thoughts.

Chiyo Yumehara (Japanese: Yukari Tamura / English: Jill Harris)
A romantic girl whose head is always in the clouds. She has many love stories and also ran her own website with her own light novel in which she was the protagonist, which she has since closed.

Chisato Mera (Japanese: Maaya Uchida / English: Megan Shipman)
Kusuo's classmate has an unfortunate past. After her father's disappearance, she was forced to support her family, so she took on a wide variety of part-time jobs. She must exercise a great deal of restraint, which has given her an extreme fondness for food.

Aren Kuboyasu (Japanese: Yoshimasa Hosoya)
A diligent student who transferred into Kusuo's class. However, it turns out he was once a delinquent and the mastermind of a team called Esper. His parents were also troublemakers, but he hoped that after transferring schools, he could steer clear of that path.

Tooru Mugami / Makoto Teruhashi (Japanese: Tomoaki Maeno / English: Brandon McInnis)
Kokomi's older brother, and an extremely handsome guy who also works as an idol and child actor under the name Tooru Mugami. He has a huge sister complex and hates anyone who gets close to her. He also stars in a movie called Specialist Sukoyaka Sentai None.

Uryoku Chouno (Japanese: Showtaro Morikubo / English: Austin Tindle)
A young illusionist who was suddenly fired from his job at a publishing house. Even his wife abandoned him and divorced him. After spending all his last savings, he was also kicked out of his home, which prompted him to become an illusionist. He admires Kusuo.

Kuniharu Saiki (Japanese: Misuo Iwata / English: Chuck Huber)
Kusuo's father. He is irresponsible and slovenly, constantly kissing up to his bosses. He is ridiculously in love with Kurumi, and even when Kusuo was born with ESP, he decided to raise him normally. He is also a manga editor.

Kurumi Saiki (Japanese: Rikako Aikawa / English: Morgan Garrett)
Kusuo's gentle and kind mother. She loves her husband and son, and it's largely thanks to her that her son hasn't used his powers for evil. She's also so carefree that she's often the target of fraud. She's a housewife whose dream is world peace.

Saiki Kumagorou (Japanese: Kouichi Yamadera)
Kusuo's tsundere grandfather. He sometimes shows his soft side to everyone except his daughter's husband, Kuniharu. He doesn't know about his grandson's powers.

Kumi Saiki (Japanese: Rie Tanaka)
Kusuo's grandmother. In addition to looking young, she often uses vulgar and foul language, and like her husband Kumagorou, she is unaware of her grandson's powers.

Kuusuke Saiki (Japanese: Kenji Nojima / English: Chris Patton)
Kusuo's older brother and an absolutely brilliant inventor with an IQ of 218. He started talking at one month old, but he also has an inferiority complex towards his younger brother and is definitely adamant about being better at ESP, too. Because of this complex, talking to him about his little brother is taboo, but he might have a soft side, too...!

Metori Saiko (Japanese: Masaya Matsukaze / English: Adam Gibbs)
Metori is another transfer student. He's arrogant and prideful and gets absolutely everything he wants, so he now thinks all problems can be solved with money. He used to love filling his bathtub with money, but he kept cutting himself with paper, so he apparently stopped. Is it possible that he's finally encountered a problem that can't be solved with money and is forced to change...?!

Touma Akechi (Japanese: Yuuki Kaji)
Touma is another transfer student in Kusuo's class. He says some absolutely mind-blowing things, so much so that you'll feel bad for his voice actor! He also knows about Kusuo's powers.

Mikoto Aiura (Japanese: Eri Kitamura)
A "well-endowed" Gyaru who transferred into Kusuo's class. She uses Gyaru a lot. She has a tongue and is extremely energetic. She also has powers, including the ability to sense auras and predict the future.

Imu Rifuta (Japanese: MAO)
A first-year student at PK Academy. She is cute and has pigtails, and is also aware of her own cuteness. She sees Kokomi as a rival and is determined to be the cutest girl in school.

Koriki #2 (Japanese: Mikako Komatsu)
A hamster who speaks a Kansai dialect. This cute little hamster ended up at the Saiki's house after getting lost.
