Summary

A Guild is a group of players managed by a game engine in MMO games with a structure, leader, and usually clearly defined goals.

(Following)

KoB

A thirty-member, reliable compensation guild to which Asuna belonged. Widely recognized as the most powerful guild in the SAO, their leader was rumored to have never lost more than half his health. Dressed in red and white.

Chief: Heathcliff
Sub-rulers: Asuna None Daizen None Godless None Uzala

After the terrifying boss battle on Floor 25, many of the cleaners had died, and the country needed new inspiration. Their march on Floor 26, with its brightly colored, heroic uniforms and banners reminiscent of the Templars, and the powerful swordswoman Asuna among their ranks, provided a major morale boost for the cleaners and was an irreplaceable force.

Before October 8, 2023, their headquarters were in Giltstein on the 25th floor. Before October 15, they moved to a secluded mansion near Nolfret on the 39th floor. As the mansion became overcrowded, their new residence is a steel tower in Granzam on the 55th floor.

Heathcliff, the official master of the guild, preferred to delegate guild transactions to his underlings.

LC

The famous orange quasi-guild of Player Killers (PKs) was so ruthless it was called the Red Guild, on par with the monsters. It's not a registered guild, so their names don't have insignia, but every member has the same tattoo of a coffin with a face and smiles.

Chief: PoH

Most of the players were convinced it was just a game, no matter what the Game Master said, so they never realized they were murderers. PoH, however, knew the truth of their actions from the start.

A murder case in the region

On April 19, 2024, Grimlock hired LC to assassinate Schmitt, Yolko, and Caynz to eliminate any leads implicating him in his wife's murder. PoH, XaXa, and Johnny Black then caught the victims near Griselda's grave, but Kirito and his warning made PoH reconsider and leave.

By August 2024, LC had killed hundreds of people and become a target of the Peace Forces. The Messengers of Peace were assassinated, so the Cleansers discovered their hideout and arrested or killed everyone. Kirito personally killed several of the twenty-one vicious fighters, with eleven Cleansers also killed. PoH managed to escape.

In October 2024, on the 74th floor, PoH watched Kirito duel against Kuradeel. He approached the vengeful Kuradeel, took him in, and taught him how to brew a paralysis potion. An incident ensued where Asuna and Kirito nearly died, but Kirito did what Asuna couldn't and finished off the rogue player.

MBC

A mid-level guild where all members except Kirito were offline friends and members of their school's computer club.

Chef: Keïta

Red-nosed reindeer

On April 8, 2023, Kirito discovered that the guild was losing to a pack of monsters and lent them a hand, his level being twice theirs. MBC was grateful and, during a debriefing at an inn, asked him what his level was, and Kirito lied to them, saying it was their level. Then Kirito accepted the guild's invitation, deciding that he would protect the good guys until they became sufficiently skilled.

MBC member Sachi had a deep fear of death and confided in Kirito, who assured her that everything would be fine.

On June 22, 2023, the guild purchased their own player house and decided to race against stronger enemies to celebrate while Keita was away making the purchase. They were clearing the 27th floor maze and found a secret room with a treasure chest inside. They entered recklessly, and Kirito was unable to warn them in time; the group became trapped in an anti-crystal zone, and monsters poured in. Kirito was unable to save anyone but himself, as the guild was wiped out. Keita returned to find Kirito alone, cursed the "beater," and jumped off Aincrad.

Much later, Kirito received a timed voicemail from Sachi, who told him not to worry, as she knew they would die soon anyway, and sang him a song of comfort.

SF

A lesser-known guild. They were massacred by Rosalia's orange guild, the Titan's Hand.

The Black Swordsman

Kirito briefly mentioned SF while telling Rosalia that he had been hired to imprison her and Titan's Hand by the leader and survivor of the guild they had attacked.

TH

An orange guild committing crimes to gain an advantage in the game.

Chef: Rosalia

Rosalia was the green player who lured victims under the swords of her ambush guild. They robbed and killed their victims.

On February 24, 2024, TH attacked Silica and Kirito, who had found the Pneuma Flower to resurrect Silica's tamed creature to which she was attached. Kirito had overleveled TH so much that they couldn't reduce his automatic health regeneration at all. TH surrendered. Rosalia offered Kirito a chance to take her side, and he refused, teleporting her to the Black Iron Palace dungeon.
