The History of the Shazam Series
Set in Fawcett City, Captain Marvel, or Shazam, is the main man in charge! Battling countless villains and even creating a Marvel Family of Shazam fighters, this story is intense and will have readers hooked from the very first fight!
Series Overview
From the beginning, the superhero Shazam doesn't even exist! Shazam is an ancient wizard who uses the ghost of Billy Batson's father to guide him to the wizard Shazam's cave. Once there, Billy Batson is chosen to fight for all good things. All he has to do to become the strongest superhero of all is say his name: SHAZAM. With a bolt of lightning, Billy becomes the superhero Shazam. The name Shazam is actually an acronym for the great "superhumans" of ancient times. The S stands for the wisdom of Solomon, the H for the strength of Hercules, the A for the endurance of Atlas, the Z for the power of Zeus, the second A for the courage of Achilles, and the M for the speed of Mercury. From there, Shazam takes shape as its events begin to shape not only Fawcett City but the world itself!
Characters from the series
In addition to the great Shazam himself, he creates a Marvel Family. With Marvel Mary (Shazam Mary) and Captain Marvel Junior. His arch-enemy is Black Adam, who ends up killing millions of people in a fit of revenge against humanity. Shazam also has major encounters with Mister Mind and Doctor Sivana.
The development of the Shazam series
While Shazam's Last Testament was released in 2019, no one has heard of any new adventures. Hopefully, they'll give the film another chance, especially after DC revealed the Marvel Family and had the idea of casting Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Black Adam. Shazam (Captain Marvel) was also featured in the video game Injustice: Gods Among Us, at least until Superman killed him.
Mass production
Shazam first appeared in 1940! Shazam was the red-clad superhero who outsold his rival, Superman. Originally published by Fawcett Comics, the release of Shazam (originally Captain Marvel) actually caused the downfall of Fawcett Comics. Being a close representation of Superman, DC filed a lawsuit that forced the cancellation and closure of Captain Marvel. The closure of Fawcett Comics led Marvel Comics to purchase the copyright and launch its own Captain Marvel in the 1960s. This second Captain Marvel led to the hit Marvel movie, Captain Marvel. However, in the 1970s, DC began publishing Captain Marvel comics again, but under its new name, Shazam.
Reception of the series
With a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the latest Shazam movie was a huge success! With future film plans involving Shazam's arch-enemy, Black Adam, we can expect more action! What's intriguing about future films in this series is that the director was actually a horror film director. With a story as intense and storied as Shazam's, we can expect some blockbuster movies in the future!
