Son Goten - Dragon Ball
Son Goten (often simply referred to as Goten) is the second and youngest child of protagonist Son Goku. He appears primarily in the latter half of the Dragon Ball Z series and some of Dragon Ball Super , with minor roles in Dragon Ball GT . He is also fully voiced by Masako Nozawa . He is a small child with the exact same hairstyle and facial features as Goku . Based on his appearance in Dragon Ball GT , however, his hairstyle becomes more unique, as it becomes slightly shorter overall and is brushed to one side. Goten was born nine months after the end of the Cell Saga, meaning he didn't meet his father until he was seven years old.
Appearances in Dragon Ball Z
Goten first appears during the Majin Buu Saga at age 7 in Dragon Ball Z. Even though he is so young, Goten is capable of transforming into a Super Saiyan and is considered the youngest Super Saiyan ever. He is already a formidable fighter, having received martial arts training from his mother, Chi-Chi. His first encounter with Goku was during the 25th Tenkaichi Budokai Tournament, where he was training with his brother Son Gohan before entering. He lost to his friend Trunks in the tournament and the two disguised themselves as Mighty Mask and entered the adult division. Shortly after, they were disqualified when their identities were revealed by Android 18. After hearing about Gohan's troubles, he headed to Babidi's hideout and found Piccolo and his friends. After being knocked unconscious and forcibly taken to Kami's lookout by Vegeta , Goten and Trunks learned the fusion dance from Goku. They learn the rest of the dance from Piccolo and fight Majin Buu while they are Gotenks. Impressively as Gotenks, they are not only able to use the Super Saiyan transformation, but also manage to go straight to Super Saiyan 3. Eventually, they are absorbed by Super Buu along with other characters and are killed when Kid Buu destroys the Earth. With Kid Buu defeated, Goten is brought back to life, along with everyone else killed during the fight with Kid Buu.
Appearances in Dragon Ball Super
In Dragon Ball Super, Goten is seen bringing lunch to Goku (who is now a farmer), buying him Videl a gift , and battling a giant snake in a special hot spring. At Goten's birthday party, Goten and Trunks fuse to form Gotenks again in a futile effort to take on the powerful Beerus . Gotenks, even in his Super Saiyan 3 form, is quickly knocked into the sea by a physically unfazed and slightly agitated Beerus. Goten is seen becoming Super Saiyan among the group of Saiyans involved in helping Goku achieve Super Saiyan God form. Goten can also be seen cheering at the various Universe 6 tournaments, but does not engage in combat. He and Trunks have a brief fight with a shapeshifting liquid enemy that takes Vegeta's form to become Copy Vegeta. They manage to hold their own against Copy Vegeta for a short while before being outclassed and saved by Goku. As the Tournament of Power begins, Goten and Trunks are taken to Monster Island with Marron by Android 17 (the local ranger) to protect the local animals from poachers. They were unaware, however, that Android 17 had forgotten to warn them that the Cell Juniors also inhabit the island.
Appearances in Dragon Ball GT
In Dragon Ball GT, now 22, Goten is accidentally left on Earth by Pan , Trunks, and Goku when they go searching for the Black Star Dragon Balls. He is spending time with his girlfriend when Baby appears and attacks Earth. Goten is then possessed by Baby and goes in search of Vegeta, making contact with his family and fighting Gohan on the way. After possessing Gohan, Baby Goten and Baby Gohan head to Vegeta and possess him as well. Goku resumes fighting Baby Vegeta and loses until Goten helps restore Goku's power, allowing him to defeat Baby Vegeta once and for all. Goten appears briefly to help in the fights against Super 17 and Synth Shenron as well.
Powers and abilities
Goten, like his brother Gohan, are both of half-Saiyan descent, allowing them to use several forms and abilities that normal humans cannot. Goten possesses super speed and super strength, but when he is first introduced, he is unable to fly.
Its main techniques are:
- Rock Throw - Goten uses this technique while training with Gohan.
- Kamehameha - A simple but powerful energy beam attack developed by Master Roshi and perfected by Son Goku.
- Super Saiyan - Goten has been able to use the Super Saiyan form since he was a child. He is arguably the youngest person to achieve the Super Saiyan transformation.
- Fusion - Goten is often seen fusing with Trunks to form Gotenks.
- Super Saiyan 3 - Goten (when fused with Gotenks) is capable of using the Super Saiyan 3 form. While transformed, Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks can also use a variety of unique moves, such as his Galactic Donut and the Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack.
