Stride Vollachia is tall, with shiny dark purple hair. Slim, handsome, and intelligent. He has a sickly complexion. He wears noble clothing.

Personality

Stride was vain and had a haughty demeanor worthy of a king (1st p.pron. 余me , 2nd p.pron. mainly 貴様Kisama ). He did not like to be answered or given orders. He insulted his (perceived) subordinates without restraint and with some creativity. Stride paid more attention to form than to substance.

That said, his head was spinning. Stride cared less about appearances than his plans and hired what pleased him. He would send a man to his death without batting an eyelid. His strategic mind would always have its own interests in the people around him, whom he could somehow control.

History

Stride was born in Vollachia approximately 40 years before Subaru's arrival, during the Emperor's selection ceremony for the Emperor's heir. He had been a sickly child since birth, and so the Emperor decided to send him to Vollachia's strongest warrior—the multi-armed swordsman Kurgan. The pretext for this decree was that Stride would train under him. In reality, the Emperor simply expected Stride to stray from Kurgan's rigorous training and die. However, Kurgan actually decided to let Stride survive and made the boy stronger. As an adult, Stride won the next Imperial Selection and became the Emperor himself, with Kurgan as his bodyguard.

He had been poisoned by his father because it turned out that Stride could not have children, which meant he was unable to properly fulfill the Emperor's duties. Stride survived the poisoning, but the harrowing experience had changed him. He said he saw the truth and believed that there was an outside entity observing everyone's actions, called the Spectators, who controlled the fate of the world. This may be one reason why Stride had a considerable penchant for being often theatrical and exaggerated, but this is mere conjecture.

After some time, Stride was initiated into the Witch Cult by the Sin Archbishop of Sloth Petelgeuse Romanée-Conti . However, even though he became the Sin Archbishop of Pride, he had no faith in the Witch of Envy, which is reason enough to believe that even the cult was one of the steps to power for Stride.

Stride married Melinda, a gray-haired survivor of the Evil Eye tribe. He had his reasons for doing so, which probably weren't love.

Years before Subaru's arrival, Stride had summoned the evil dragon Valgren and, accompanied by Melinda, attacked Picoutatte, a regional capital of Lugnica. He had also attacked House Astrea several times and had Melinda use her Evil Eye ability to disrupt the minds of Picoutatte's citizens, though his wife hated his gift. Stride plotted wholeheartedly against the well-protected Lugnica, earning his nickname.

Relationships

Kurgan Stride treated Stride as well as he would have treated his own son. However, Stride had shown no gratitude toward Kurgan. On the contrary, he had disrespected his mentor, which was not at all typical of a father figure.

Melinda loved Stride selflessly and died kissing her, even though he obviously only had practical reasons, like his magical eyes, for having her by his side.

Shasuke and Raizo , the shinobi completely loyal to Stride. Stride, in turn, viewed them as pawns to be controlled and cursed them into complete submission so that they would better serve him. Shasuke even surprised Stride himself by returning to his duties after losing the curse.

Guillaume d'Astrea Stride became Wilhelm's enemy after defeating Kurgan. Stride also had an unsettling attitude towards Wilhelm, enjoying his suffering and that of his loved ones for comic effect.

Roswall J Mathers was a named arch-enemy of Stride.

Powers

Stride carried five Metia rings that could apply curses, including the terrible Scarlet Little Finger and those that break will.

Having royal blood, Stride could summon the crimson Yang Sword Vollachia out of the light, like Vincent Vollachia.

As Stride was the Archbishop of the Sin of Pride, he must have had the Authority of Pride of his own, though its use has not yet been mentioned.
