About Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online is a series that began as a web novel published by Reki Kawahara in 2002 and eventually gained enough popularity to receive an anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures in 2012, with several additional seasons in the following years. Set in the near future, the story follows Kirito, who joins the eponymous virtual reality game with 9,999 other players, only to discover that the developer has trapped them inside the game until its dungeons are completely cleared. Any attempt to log out of the game fails, and forcibly removing players from the game will result in death. Furthermore, if a player's health reaches 0 in the game, their real body also dies.
