Synopsis

Symphogear XV is an action/sci-fi/music anime. This fifth season will follow Hibiki Tachibana, Tsubasa Kazanari, Chris Yukine, Shirabe Tsukuyomi, Maria Cadenzavna Eve, Shirabe Tsukuyomi, and Kirika Akatsuki as they use the power of their voices through song to protect the world with the help of their Symphogear, a powerful suit of armor used to combat the "Noise" and activated when a user attunes to their relic. It's been a while since anyone has seen the "Noise," but a similar wavelength has been detected at Yokohama's Oosan Bridge, where a small, hooded figure in black made off with a small box. It seems there is a song to destroy the world, and it's up to the girls to save it.

Background

Symphogear XV is the fifth season and final installment of the Symphogear anime series, which began in November 2011 as a manga written by Akifumi Kaneko and Noriyasu Agematsu and illustrated by Dan Yoshii. It ran from New Ace Type until April 2013. The smartphone game Senki Zessho Symphogear XD Unlimited by Bushiroad was released in June 2017.

Symphogear XV will be produced by Satelight, directed by Katsumi Ono, and written by Akifumi Kaneko, with music by Elements Garden. The opening theme song will be by Nana Mizuki and the ending theme song by Ayahi Takagaki.

Characters

Hibiki Tachibana (Voice of: Aoi Yuuki)

Hibiki Tachibana nearly died from the noise but survived thanks to Kanade's sacrifice. Her Symphogear is the third relic of Gungnir that belonged to Kanade. Since it is only a fragment, she has less armor, but she makes up for it by specializing in martial arts. When she gets angry, she sometimes goes into a frenzy.

Tsubasa Kazanari (Voice of: Nana Mizuki)

Tsubasa Kazanari was originally part of the duo known as "Zwei Wing," but her partner Kanade sacrificed herself for Hibiki. Because of this, she became cold and distant. Her Symphogear is the first Ame no Habakiri relic, and her weapon equipment is a katana. Although she is popular as a pop idol, she only considers herself a weapon that sings only to fight. She has survived or been resurrected from at least two situations in which others believed her to be dead. She is the first heir to Fudo Kazanari, the current head of the Kazanari family.

Chris Yukine (Voice of: Ayahi Takagaki)

Chris Yukine is a mysterious young girl of Japanese descent who worked under the main villain Fine. She wanted to end all wars by killing everyone who had the power and will to fight because her parents, Masanori Yukine and Sonnet M. Yukine, were killed in a terrorist attack during a music concert for refugees from a civil war, and she was kidnapped and sold into sex slavery. However, she failed to live up to Finé's expectations and later joined Hibiki and Tsubasa. She has the ability to summon and command Noise with the relic "Solomon's Cane" as well as a Symphogear, the second Ichaival relic. Her weapon equipment is a crossbow, but with her violent imagination, she can transform it into several types of firearms and missiles.

Tsukuyomi by Shirabe (Voice by: Yoshino Nanjo)

Shirabe Tsukuyomi is a daring tactician who coordinates with Maria's team. Her Symphogear Shul Shagana are disc blades stored throughout her body. Her parents were killed in a car accident, during which she suffered a severe head injury that caused her to lose all her past memories and identity. She eventually regrets and redeems herself for her actions against Hibiki.

Maria Cadenzavna Eve (Voice of: Yoko Hikasa)

Maria Cadenzavna Eve is an energetic singer who reached the top of the American music charts just two months after her debut. She has fans worldwide. Her Symphogear is a second Gungnir similar to Kanade's but with a powerful cannon mode. Later, thanks to Elfnein, she begins to use Serena's relic Airgetlam, which takes the form of a whip-sword that can be used in multiple ways.

Kirika Akatsuki (Voice of: Ai Kayano)

Kirika Akatsuki was one of the "Receiving Children" along with Maria, Serena, Shirabe, and others. She is straightforward, cheerful, and cooperative, but she also hides a dark past. She often ends her sentences with "death desu." Her Symphogear, Igalima, is a scythe.

Miku Kohinata (Voice of: Yuka Iguchi)

Miku Kohinata is Hibiki's best friend. She eventually joins Section 2 of the Special Disaster Response Team to help Hibiki. Hibiki helps her after being controlled and corrupted by Dr. Ver by becoming the user of the Shénshòujìng relic, which can fire lasers using multiple mirrors and negate the effects of relics. Miku then uses the Shénshòujìng for good to defeat Hibiki's evil counterpart from a parallel world, Evil Hibiki.
