Tanjiro Kamado - Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

Tanjiro Kamado (竈門炭治郎 Kamado Tanjiro) is a kind-natured boy with a strong sense of justice. He is the main protagonist of Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) None

Tanjiro is described by several characters as having kind eyes. He sports tousled black hair with a burgundy tint at the ends and a prominent scar on the left side of his forehead.
His father, Tanjuro Kamado, died of an illness, leaving behind his wife and six children. As the eldest son of the Kamado family and Nezuko 's older brother, Tanjiro is responsible for caring for his younger siblings and mother. The only memento left by his father is a pair of distinctive hanafuda earrings that he always wears. He is voiced by Zach Aguilar in the English dub, and Natsuki Hanae in the original Japanese.

Preview

In a world not unlike that of Edo-period Japan, Tanjiro is a cheerful boy who runs his family's charcoal business and leads a humble but happy life. One day, as usual, Tanjiro sets out to town on foot to sell charcoal, but is unable to return home by nightfall. He returns the next day to find that his entire family has recently been murdered, except for his little sister.
Having transformed into a demon herself, Nezuko is unable to recognize her brother. Tanjiro isn't entirely sure what happened, and the two are soon confronted by a demon slayer named Giyu Tomioka None.

After Tanjiro resolves the conflict with the Demon Slayer, Giyu asks him to seek out a former Demon Slayer named Urokodaki on Sagiri Mountain. Searching for answers and overcoming obstacles, Tanjiro encounters a stern old man wearing a tengu mask during his journey. After the old man reveals himself to be the former Demon Slayer Urokodaki, Tanjiro's conviction is tested. How far is he willing to go to protect his sister, to avenge his family? He intends to hunt the demon responsible for his family's murder in hopes of finding a cure for his sister, Nezuko ; Tanjiro heads down the path of the Demon Slayer.

Personality

Tanjiro displays traits such as virtue, generosity, honesty, and humility. He is gentle to a fault, which prevents him from making decisive decisions, but later reveals himself to be serious when necessary. In the face of danger, he is brave enough to fight a demon slayer without a weapon. With an honest sense of righteousness, his behavior can be interpreted as stubbornness in his dealings with others. He is never afraid to ask others for help and is just as willing to reciprocate. Tanjiro displays a natural talent for observation, able to quickly discern situations, often using his keen sense of smell.

He is caring and protective of his friends, especially his sister Nezuko. Of all his traits, the one that sets him apart is his ability to empathize, even with human-eating demons. Often followed by retaliation during battles, he hesitates with indecision before finishing off his enemies. However, he shows an unwavering conviction to protect Nezuko at all costs and does not hesitate when it comes to his sister.

Skills and abilities

Highly Developed Smell - Tanjiro has a highly developed sense of smell, to the point of being compared to a beast. After further training, Tanjiro developed his sense of smell to the point where he could sniff out "interval threads" in combat.
Stubborn – It's not easy for him to change his mind. Not only is he stubborn, but it is said that his head is literally harder than that of other normal humans.
Intelligence - Naturally able to read the flow of a battle and adapt to it. Through his efforts, he is able to overcome most obstacles. Spotted by Giyu Tomioka, Tanjiro skillfully launches a surprise attack in an attempt to defeat the Demon Slayer even without any prior combat experience.
Swordsmanship - Taught by his teacher Sakonji Urokodaki, combined with full concentration breathing, he is able to slice through a large boulder with his katana.
Total Concentration Breathing: Water Breathing - (水の呼吸) Tanjiro spent two years training on Sagiri Mountain, where the air is extremely thin and difficult to breathe. One of the five main forms of Total Concentration Breathing taught and developed by Sakonji Urokodaki. Both Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro use this style of swordsmanship. Increases speed, strength, reflexes, and allows the use of breathing techniques underwater.
Ancient Fire God Dance - (ヒノカミ神楽) a traditional dance passed down from his father. Related to the hanafuda earrings that were also inherited. The Ancient Fire God Dance is a type of Total Concentration Breathing, as the name suggests, takes the form of a dance. Tanjiro uses this form of Total Concentration Breathing to unleash a unique set of attacks compared to his usual Water Style taught to him by Urokodaki.
