Synopsis

Wein Salema Arbalest is the son of King Owen and the crown prince of a small nation called the Kingdom of Natra. But when his father falls ill, the task of ruling the country falls to him, and he becomes Prince Regent. Along with his beautiful and capable assistant, Ninym Ralei, he embodies the image of a genius prince who works tirelessly to improve the weak kingdom. But behind the scenes, he resents the responsibilities he's been given and hopes he can sell his country and live a life of leisure!

Background

The Genius Prince's Guide to Getting a Nation Out of Debt is a light novel series written by Toru Toba and illustrated by fal_maro that has been published by SB Creative under their GA Bunko imprint since May 2018. As of August 2021, 10 volumes have been released. The light novel is licensed for English release in North America by Yen Press, which has published eight volumes as of December 2021.

A manga adaptation illustrated by Emuda has been serialized in Square Enix's Manga UP! online manga magazine since October 2019 and published in five collected tankobon volumes as of December 2021.

A television anime adaptation was announced during the GA Fes 2021 livestream held in January 2021. The series is animated by Yokohama Animation Lab and stars Masato Tamagawa as director and Xin Ya Cai as assistant director, with Deko Akao as series composer, Ryunosuke Oji as character designer, and Toshihiko Sahashi as music composer. The anime's opening theme song is "LEVEL" by Nagi Yanagi and THE SIXTH LIE, and the ending theme song is "Hitori to Kimi to" by Yoshino Nanjo. The anime will premiere in Japan on January 11, 2022, on Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X.

Characters

Vin Salema Crossbow (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
A 16-year-old prince of the kingdom of Natra, he is declared prince regent after his father's illness and becomes responsible for the kingdom's well-being and future. He is an excellent politician who enjoys the trust of his subjects. But beneath his facade, he is actually a slacker who only wants to sell out the country to shirk his responsibilities and live a comfortable life as a hermit.

Ninym Ralei (Voice of: Rie Takahashi)
Wein's assistant. She is a beautiful 16-year-old girl from the Flahm tribe, with white hair and red eyes. She provides Wein with a wide range of support, from politics to combat. She is Wein's childhood friend and is strict but caring with him. She is one of the few people who knows Wein's true nature and understands the kingdom's plight.

Falanya's Elk Crossbow (Voiced by: Sayaka Senbongi)
The princess of the Natra Kingdom. She admires her older brother, Wein, and trusts him immensely. She's still at the age where she wants to be pampered, but she's also studying to become a member of the royal family so she can help her brother as much as possible. She also looks up to Ninym like an older sister.

Lowellmina's Earthworld (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)
The second Imperial Princess of the Earthworld Empire and Wein's classmate while he was studying there. When she was a student, she hid her real name and called herself Lowa, a rural noblewoman. She is very intelligent and cunning, and even made Wein look like a fool.

Fish brandel (Voice of: Yoko Hikasa)
A resident ambassador sent from the Earthwold Empire to the Kingdom of Natra. She is a calm and capable young bureaucrat who has earned Lowellmina's trust as an aide in the empire. She keeps a close eye on Wein.

Nanaki Ralei (Voice of: Yuki Sakakihara)
A young boy with white hair and red eyes who acts as Falanya's bodyguard. He is taciturn and straightforward with everyone, but he cares for Falanya. He is very skilled in combat and has a keen eye for observation.

Zeno (Voiced by: Yuki Nakashima)
A high-ranking officer in the Marden Liberation Army, she replaces Prince Helmut, the army's leader. He is an intelligent officer with a keen sense of insight, but his desire for revenge against the Kabarinu Kingdom, which conquered the former Marden Kingdom, can lead him to let his emotions get the better of him.

Gruer Soljest (Voice of: Akio Ohtsuka)
The king of the kingdom of Soljest. He is one of the most gluttonous and obese men on the continent, and because of this, he is unable to do anything on his own and always relies on his beautiful maid. However, his tolerance and skill in military strategy make him a great king, appreciated by the people, who has helped the kingdom become powerful.

Lachram (Voice of: Daiki Hamano)
The captain of the Natra Kingdom's army. He has a calm demeanor, but on the battlefield, he is a skilled fighter with prowess in spearmanship.

Manfred Terremonde (Voice of: Kengo Kawanishi)
The third prince of the Earthwold Empire. He is gentle and kind. Although he holds Wein in high regard, he sees him as a danger to the empire.

Bartholorush (Voice of: Kenichiro Matsuda)
The second prince of the Earthwold Empire. He is a heroic man of power and military prowess. He considers Wein a valuable asset and wants to bring him under his control.

Gardmeria (Voice of: Mamiko Noto)
A woman with great political power, she sows confusion and chaos to serve her own interests.

Torcheila (Voiced by: Rie Kugimiya)
Princess of the Kingdom of Soljest and daughter of Gruer. She becomes interested in Wein after meeting him.

Earthworld of Deuterio (Voiced by: Ryuichi Kijima)
The first prince of the Earth Empire. He fights his brothers for succession to the throne and has the special advantage of being the eldest son. He is rather incompetent and incapable of rational thought. He becomes jealous of Wein when the latter becomes more popular than him in the empire.

Agar (Voice of: Takayuki Sugo)
A veteran general in the Natra Kingdom's army. He was once a renowned general whose name was known far and wide, but was forced to leave his country for some reason, and after wandering, he decides to serve King Owen. He thinks highly of Wein's talents.
