Synopsis

Fuutaro Uesugi, a second-year high school student, gets excellent grades but comes from a poor family. One day, he meets Itsuki Nakano, a transfer student, who asks him to help her study. However, he refuses, facing her anger. Soon after, Fuutaro hears from his sister Raiha about a well-paying part-time job tutoring girls from a wealthy family. Wanting to help his family pay off their debts, he accepts the position, only to discover that his job involves tutoring Itsuki and her four twin sisters!

Itsuki and her sisters are all pretty girls, but they're also all troublemakers who have no interest in studying and are about to fail high school. Fuutaro is tasked with helping them improve their grades until graduation, but first he must earn their trust! Will he win over these mischievous girls before they have him poisoned, arrested, or worse?

Background

The Quintessential Quintuplets began as a manga series written and illustrated by Negi Haruba that began serialization in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2017. As of November 2018, the Japanese manga has been compiled into six tankobon volumes, with the seventh set for release in December 2018. The manga is being published digitally in English by Kodansha USA under its Kodansha Comics imprint, and so far, five volumes have been released.

An anime adaptation of the series was announced in Weekly Shonen Magazine . The series is directed by Satoshi Kuwabara and written by Keiichiro Ochi. Michinosuke Nakamura and Miyabi Uta are in charge of character designs, Hanae Nakamura, Miki Sakurai, and Natsumi Tabuchi are composing the music, and Tezuka Productions is producing the animation. The opening theme song is "Gotoubun no Kimochi" by the band Nakano-ke no Itsuko (consisting of voice actresses Kana Hanazawa, Ayana Taketatsu, Miku Ito, Ayane Sakura, and Inori Minase), and the ending theme song is "Sign" by Aya Uchida. The anime will premiere in Japan on January 10, 2019, on TBS, Sun TV, and BS-TBS.

Characters

**Fuutaro Uesugi** (Voiced by: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka)

A sophomore from a poor family who achieves exceptional grades. He takes a job as a tutor to help his family pay off their debts. He's the type to follow his own path, no matter what others think.

Raiha Uesugi (Voice of: Natsumi Takamori)

Fuutaro's younger sister. Unlike her brother, she is cheerful and sociable. She does household chores and even cuts Fuutaro's hair. Because of her purity, she is cherished by Fuutaro and well-liked by the quintuplets, especially Yotsuba and Itsuki.

Isanari Uesugi (Voice of: Satoshi Hino)

Fuutaro and Raiha's father. His defining features are his blond hair and the sunglasses he wears. Since his wife's death, he has worked hard to raise Fuutaro and Raiha alone. He has a wild but easygoing personality.

Ichika Nakano (Voice of: Kana Hanazawa)

The eldest of the quintuplets. Ichika is a helpful big sister, but she causes trouble around the house and is bad at cleaning. She has a secret that she keeps from her sisters...

Nino Nakano (Voice of: Ayana Taketatsu)

The second of the quintuplets. Although Nino values ​​her sisters above all else, she can be rude to others and often clashes with Fuutaro. She is a competent cook and is responsible for preparing meals for the Nakano family.

Miku Nakano (Voice of: Miku Ito)

The third of the quintuplets, Miku is a calm and quiet girl, but she is also obsessed with the commanders of the Sengoku era. She excels at disguising herself to resemble her sisters and is sometimes called upon to act in their place.

Yotsuba Nakano (Voice of: Ayane Sakura)

The fourth of the quintuplets, Yotsuba is an energetic and friendly girl who doesn't know how to say no when asked for help. Of her sisters, she is the most athletic and often helps out with her school's sports clubs.

Itsuki Nakano (Voice of: Inori Minase)

The fifth of the quintuplets. Itsuki is serious and the most tenacious of her sisters, although she is clumsy and often fails to achieve results. She loves to eat and is the slimiest of her sisters.
