Does Usopp eat a Devil Fruit?
One Piece: Does Usopp Eat a Devil Fruit?

Of all the Straw Hat Pirates in One Piece, Usopp is known as the comic relief and by far its most cowardly member. While Usopp's cowardice may not reflect his true powers, we certainly haven't seen much of the latter because of the former. That's why we've ventured on a journey to discover Usopp's strength in our previous articles, and this one will actually be a continuation of the articles exploring Usopp's powers and abilities. In this article, you'll find out if Usopp ate a Devil Fruit in the manga and anime series One Piece.
Usopp didn't eat a Devil Fruit in One Piece. He is one of the few characters in the series to become famous despite not possessing any special Devil Fruit powers. While Usopp isn't one of the strongest characters in the series, everything he's done so far is actually the result of his own training. However, during a fan Q&A, Oda revealed that if Usopp had eaten a Devil Fruit, it would have been the comic Poke Poke no Mi.
The rest of this article will focus on Usopp's character in One Piece. We'll tell you whether or not Usopp ate a Devil Fruit, as well as some general information about his powers and abilities. This article may contain a smaller number of spoilers, so be careful while reading.
Will Usopp ever eat a Devil Fruit?
Usopp is the Straw Hat Pirates' sharpshooter and one of the weakest and most cowardly members by comparison. Oda wants to permanently make him the weakest member of the crew to maintain balance in the story and because Usopp is the closest crew member to a normal human being. Since the beginning of the series, he has been inferior in power and strength to the other characters and needs his weapons to strengthen himself. Based on this, you can probably deduce that Usopp hasn't eaten a Devil Fruit, and you'd be right: Usopp hasn't eaten one in the series. But will he?
The fact that Usopp didn't eat a Devil Fruit makes him one of the few relevant characters who have achieved fame and popularity in the pirate world without having eaten a Devil Fruit. Okay, sure, Usopp isn't one of the most feared characters in the series, but regardless, he's become a formidable foe, as recent events have shown. All of this is a direct result of his training and hard work, which is why it's even better.
As for the future, we highly doubt Oda will ever see Usopp eat a Devil Fruit. It wouldn't make much sense from a developmental perspective, and it's a bit too late now. It could happen accidentally, but we don't think Oda will. It just wouldn't make much sense. Besides, Oda has already told us what Usopp's Devil Fruit would be, which implies it'll never happen.

Namely, even though Usopp didn't actually consume a Devil Fruit, author Eiichiro Oda revealed, in the SBS (a fan Q&A section) for volume 98, what would have happened if Usopp had consumed a Devil Fruit. Here's the full transcript:
D: If Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Franky had become ability users, then what kind of fruit do you think they would have eaten? -PN 420-plot
O: I see, that's a pretty funny question~. Hmmm... what I'd like to see is... Zoro: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (Fish Fish Fruit, Mythic Type Model: Seiryuu) Nami: Goro Goro no Mi (Rumble Rumble Fruit) (Lightning Human) Usopp: Poke Poke no Mi (Pocket Pocket Fruit) (Infinite pockets in the body) Sanji: Sui Sui no Mi (Swim Swim Fruit) Franky: Buki Buki no Mi (Arms Arms Fruit)
Zoro: I'd rather have the sword transform into a dragon than Zoro. I think that would be incredibly cool. Nami: A true weather lady, now no one can stop her (except Luffy). Usopp: The perfect pocket for someone like Usopp who always has something up his sleeve. Sanji: It allows you to slide through walls or swim on the ground. If it were given to Sanji, it would become a pretty nasty ability. Franky: You can't get a better ability than that for Franky.
What are Usopp's powers and abilities?
Now that we've cleared that up, let's see what Usopp was able to do without any Devil Fruit powers. Usopp doesn't have superhuman abilities like Luffy or Sanji. Before the time skip, he used bluff to hide the fact that he could only lift 5 kg at best, being, along with Nami, one of the weaker members without any fighting skills; the duo often improvised with whatever they had at hand during fights. After the time skip, however, he is strong enough to hold Luffy and Robin in icy water without sinking.
Usopp, along with Sanji, was one of the most tactically adept members of Luffy's crew, partly due to his lack of courage. Even though they were stronger than him, he could lie blatantly with enough confidence to scare some gullible individuals. He frequently used these skills to develop a successful battle strategy. Usopp confronted Smack and threw a wine bottle at him, which he caught, setting him on fire so he could kill him with a hammer later.
His marksmanship skills also improved over time, as did his use of Haki, but these things weren't detailed in the story but were shown and explored over time, so we don't really have anything to pinpoint here. Usopp simply became stronger and better over time when it came to these skills. In this regard, the time skip was really crucial for him, as Usopp not only became a braver person and a better fighter, but he also became more skilled and powerful.
