Vegeta - Dragon Ball

Vegeta is the son of King Vegeta of the Saiyan warrior race. He appears as an antagonist at the beginning of the Dragon Ball Z series, but eventually becomes part of the Z Fighters and, by Dragon Ball Super , a close friend ofSon Goku. As the prince of the Saiyan race and Planet Vegeta, he is deeply arrogant and prideful. This has often led to a series of disadvantageous situations and questionable choices. He has been voiced consistently by Ryō Horikawa in all versions of the Japanese series.

Appearances in Dragon Ball Z

Vegeta makes his first appearance inDragon Ball Z when he and his sidekick Nappa invade Earth in search of the Dragon Balls. He relies on a scouter to read power levels and is surprised to find that the people of Earth can increase and decrease their power levels at will. Nappa's back is broken by Goku , leading Vegeta to throw him into the sky and blow him up, claiming that there is no need for a Saiyan who cannot move. He remarks that the ash remnants in the sky resemble "dirty fireworks." Vegeta begins fighting Goku after walking away from the scene of the previous fight. Fighting Goku proves more difficult than expected, as he uses his Great Ape transformation. Dominating the encounter, he crushes Goku in his hands and beneath his massive feet, paralyzing him. Krillin attempts to sever Vegeta's tail with a Destructo Disc but narrowly misses. Turning the tide of battle, Yajirobe cuts Vegeta's tail with his sword and flees, reverting the exhausted Vegeta to his normal form. Unable to fend off the remaining Z Fighters, he is spared at Goku's request, as Krillin is about to kill him with Yajirobe's sword, humiliating Vegeta as he escapes.

Upon his return, Vegeta recovers and heads to Planet Namek in search of the Dragon Balls to gain immortality. His first encounter with a member of Frieza 's army is with Kyui, whom he easily dispatches. During this search, he encounters Krillin and Gohan several times before also coming face to face with Dodoria . After receiving a power upgrade from his time on Earth, Vegeta handles Dodoria with relative ease, much to Dodoria's surprise. However, even after gaining newfound strength, he is still no match for Frieza's right-hand man, Zarbon . Zarbon defeats Vegeta and, mistakenly believing him to be dead, quickly leaves the scene. Vegeta recovers from this fight and seeks revenge on Zarbon during their eventual next encounter.

After retrieving most of the Dragon Balls and being nearly ready to use them, Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan come face to face with Frieza's elite fighting unit, the Ginyu Force . Recoome alone is more than enough to destroy all three fighters until Goku intervenes. Vegeta mercilessly kills the unconscious members of the Ginyu Force, much to Goku's dismay, before battling Captain Ginyu himself in Goku's body. He places Goku in a healing tank while the remaining fighters go to fight Frieza. Vegeta manages to hold his own against Frieza's various forms with several power-ups, but ultimately succumbs to Frieza's final form. He was killed by a death ray to the heart. In his dying breaths, he tearfully pleads for Goku to avenge his race and planet.

Vegeta is involuntarily brought back to life after the events on Namek, and while he is still a threat, he is much more pleasant than before. He hears about the androids and leaves Earth to train in the hopes that he can achieve his goal. Super Saiyan Three years later, Android 19 is demolished by a newly reborn Super Saiyan Vegeta. Dr. Gero escapes while the Z Fighters pursue him. Although Vegeta easily defeated Android 19, he easily broke Android 18's arm shortly after. After training with Trunks in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Vegeta attains the Ascended Saiyan form, which he uses to overpower Semi-Perfect Cell. Since pride is Vegeta's greatest weakness, he allowed Cell to absorb 18 and achieve his Perfect form. This proved to be a huge mistake, as Cell was now far more powerful than Vegeta in his Super Saiyan form. During the Cell Games, Vegeta is also attacked by one of the Cell Jr. while Gohan is provoked by Cell. The beam clash between Cell and Gohan seems to go in Cell's favor until Vegeta launches a Bing Bang attack on Cell, distracting him momentarily and allowing Gohan to kill Cell and end the fight.

Seven years later, Vegeta enters the Tenkaichi Budokai Tournament with his young son Trunks in hopes of battling Goku. Instead, the two (and Gohan) end up in Babidi and face several trials as part of Babidi's master plan to awaken Majin Buu . Vegeta gives in to his obsession with surpassing Goku, receiving the Majin Mark on his forehead as he falls under Babidi's control. After knocking Super Saiyan 2 Goku unconscious, Vegeta confronts Majin Buu, self-destructing in an attempt to destroy him. However, this ultimately fails due to Majin Buu's regenerative abilities. Vegeta is summoned to help Goku fight Majin Buu and, in the end, helps hold off Kid Buu while Goku gathers enough energy for a Spirit Bomb.

Appearances in Dragon Ball Super

In the Dragon Ball Super series, the invading Beerus deeply frightens Vegeta, and he does his best to accommodate and appease the God of Destruction to avoid incurring his wrath. This goes well until Beerus attacks Bulma , sending Vegeta into a rage. In his enraged state, Vegeta is able to land several blows on Beerus that previously even a Super Saiyan 3 Goku was unable to hit.

Vegeta aids Trunks in the battle against Goku Black and Zamasu in the future. The battle goes well until Zamasu and Goku Black fuse to form Fused Zamasu. Vegeta reluctantly uses the Potara earrings with Goku to create Vegeta . In Super Saiyan Blue , in his current form, Vegito proves to be more than a match for the fused god. However, before the decisive blow can be delivered, they defuse due to energy constraints.

During the Universe 6 and 7 Tournament, Vegeta defeats Gel , Magetta, and Cabba , but ultimately loses to Smite. When Future Trunks reappears with a perilous warning from the future, Vegeta helps him fight Goku Black and Zamasu. In the Tournament of Power, Vegeta manages to defeat many fighters, including Toppo as the God of Destruction, but is ultimately knocked out by Jiren in the final two minutes of the fight. Upon exiting the fight, he sends his last remaining energy to Goku to aid him against the powerful Jiren. During the fight against Broly , Vegeta learns the Fusion Dance to form Gogeta None.

Appearances in Dragon Ball GT

Vegeta appears most prominently in Dragon Ball GT when he is possessed by Baby and nearly defeats Goku and the other fighters in his Golden Great Ape form. He is also present in the fight against Synth Shenron when Bulma helps him achieve Super Saiyan 4 form with a special machine.

Powers and abilities

Thanks to his Saiyan biology, Vegeta has many advantages over other characters. Like most Saiyans, he has superhuman speed and strength, slower aging, and a tail that allows him to transform into a Great Ape.

Its main techniques are:

  • Galick Gun - This is Vegeta's signature attack. It is almost identical to the Kamehameha (as Vegeta noted during his fight on Earth against Goku).
  • Big Bang Attack - Vegeta fires a powerful energy ball from one palm-up hand.
  • Final Flash - Final Flash is performed by extending the arms sideways and charging a massive amount of energy. The hands then join together and an incredibly powerful beam is fired. (Vegeta nearly destroyed the Earth with this attack during his fight with Cell.)
  • Final Impact - This technique was only used when he was Majin Vegeta. It is a bolt of energy fired from the hand and used to pierce an opponent.
  • Final Blast - Again, this is only used when he was Majin Vegeta. He releases all of his energy and life force to create a monstrously powerful energy dome capable of disintegrating his opponents. This also kills Vegeta.

Power Ups and Transformations

Vegeta is capable of a number of transformations and power-ups due to his Saiyan heritage.

  • Zenkai Boost - Due to his Saiyan biology, Vegeta receives a power boost after recovering from a near-death experience. (Zenkai boosts became mostly irrelevant later in the series.)
  • Fusion Dance - Vegeta is able to perform the Metamoran Fusion Dance.
  • Great Ape – When he has a tail, Vegeta is able to transform into a Great Ape.
  • Super Saiyan – Performed sometime after Trunks kills Mecha Frieza and is first used against Android 19.
  • Super Saiyan 2 – Set between the Cell and Buu sagas.
  • Super Saiyan God – First used against Broly in the Dragon Ball Super movie.
  • Super Saiyan Blue - Obtained by training with Whis on Beer 's planet.
  • Super Saiyan 4 – The final and most powerful Super Saiyan transformation (GT only). Vegeta achieved this form unconventionally by intentionally projecting waves of Blutz onto himself.

Family

  • King Vegeta - Father.
  • Bulma - Female.
  • Trunks - Son.
  • Bulla - Girl.
  • Dr. Briefs - Stepfather.
