Yamato vs. Zoro: Who Is Stronger & Who Would Win in a Fight?

One Piece is undoubtedly a series with its fair share of strong and powerful characters. Due to the powers and abilities of these characters, there are more than enough characters we can use for our comparisons. The protagonists of this comparison will be Zoro, a member of Luffy's crew, and Yamato, the daughter of Kaidou, a former emperor of the sea in the world of One Piece. In this article, we will analyze both, as we will pit Zoro against Yamato to finally determine who is the strongest character.

At this point, Yamato would be able to defeat Zoro. The difference between them isn't that great, and Zoro's skills are better than Yamato's on paper, but Yamato is Kaidou's child and is therefore more powerful, more durable, and a tougher fighter than Zoro. Yet, despite this, it wouldn't take much for Zoro to catch up to Yamato's power level.

The rest of this article will expand on the answer given above, as we compare Yamato and Zoro in more detail. Through several categories, you'll see who is the stronger of the two and why our answer is the way it is—that is, why Yamato would ultimately be able to defeat Zoro in a direct fight.

Physical powers

Yamato has been shown to have tremendous physical strength, as she was able to knock out Ulti with a single swing of her mace while transformed. Due to her large size, she was able to easily lift Luffy and catch him with one arm while he was running. Yamato is quite fast, being able to dash with blinding speed to attack her targets, as well as evade pursuit from members of the Beast Pirates.

Yamato also possesses great endurance, withstanding blasts and direct hits without much trouble, leaving him with only superficial bruises and cuts. As a child, Yamato was able to withstand the beatings inflicted on him by his father and managed to go without eating for a time.

Zoro is one of the physically strongest characters in the series. He demonstrated his strength while fighting Daz Bones. He easily lifted a building despite his injuries. He is seen training on the Thousand Sunny with one-ton dumbbells. His strength is likely equal to or greater than that of a giant, as he was able to parry a direct blow from Oars with his swords. After the time skip, Zoro's strength has increased considerably.

Sure, you'd say Zoro managed to cut Kaidou, but it ultimately didn't do much good, did it? Yamato is Kaidou's daughter, and in that respect, her physical abilities, including her endurance, are superior to Zoro's. Since Yamato is much more resilient, we absolutely have to agree with him here.

Devil Fruit

Yamato ate the Inu Inu no Mi, Model: Okuchi no Makami, a mythical Zoan-type fruit that her father Kaido had collected. She inadvertently ate it because she was hungry. This fruit allows her to transform into the "Ōkuchi-no-Magami," the deification of the Honshū Wolf, an extinct subspecies of wolf living in Japan, believed to be the protector of humans. This fruit allows her to generate a destructive breath and resembles a creature with fangs, a thin snout, and misty hair.

Roronoa Zoro is a very powerful character. He is known as one of the most powerful characters in the series and one of the best swordsmen in the series; he will likely, by all means, surpass even Mihawk in the future. Now, Zoro's powers and exploits certainly warrant the conclusion that he consumed a Devil Fruit, but is that really true? It isn't—Roronoa Zoro has never eaten a Devil Fruit.

This makes Zoro one of the very few characters (the other most notable being Mihawk) who is extremely powerful but has not actually consumed a Devil Fruit; most other powerful characters have their Devil Fruits to thank for their individual reputations.

This one is also pretty straightforward, like the category analyzed above. Zoro doesn't have a Devil Fruit, while Yamato does, and a very powerful one at that. In this respect, Yamato clearly wins the points in this category.

RIGHT

Yamato is able to use all three forms of Haki, like her father, which is a very rare feat in the world of One Piece. Yamato possesses Conqueror's Haki, a very rare form of Haki. Yamato instinctively activated this Haki as a child while traveling through Onigashima, accidentally knocking out many of her father's subordinates. She will have mastered it by the time she becomes an adult, as she was seen imbuing her Kanabō with Conqueror's Haki, which produces dark lightning bolts, while attacking Kaidou with the Raimei Hakke technique.

Yamato is also a highly skilled user of Armament Haki, imbuing it with her hand and Kanabō when attacking Hatcha, causing a lightning-like effect. Yamato can use this Haki in its advanced stage, being able to launch it a great distance forward and strike distant opponents with tremendous force with a single Kanabō strike, which was enough to defeat Hatcha. Yamato can also use it to injure Logia users, such as during her first encounter with Ace, managing to injure him. Yamato is also capable of using Observation Haki.

Zoro is one of the few people to possess all three forms of Haki. Zoro possesses Royal Haki, the rarest form of Haki, whose users possess the qualities of a king. He is first mentioned as possessing this power by Kaido after Zoro's nine-sword attack. During his fight against King, he uses Royal Haki to coat his swords, a very advanced form, and at the same time, members of the Beasts crew are seen fainting.

He didn't use Haki offensively against Monet, but he still managed to defeat her because she thought he was going to use Haki, and as a result, she would die. Monet's fear at that moment completely destabilizes her. He has learned to imbue his swords with Haki to make them more effective against Haki or Devil Fruit users.

He also used Armament Haki on Pica to slice him, meaning his Haki is more advanced than Pica's. Using Haki also allows him to counter Devil Fruit powers, as he did to temporarily stop the Birdcage.

He first uses Observation in his fight against Nuru, a Fishman capable of blinding his opponents thanks to the lantern on his forehead, even telling him that he only used his eyes to see and that was why he was weak; he used it again to find Caribou in the palace. He also uses it during the Dressrosa Arc to find the whereabouts of the one who stole his sword but also to find Pica during his fight against him.

And while we could argue that Yamato's Haki skills are more powerful than Zoro's, the difference isn't so significant that we can't split the points in this category, seeing as how both characters can use all three types of Haki.

Weapons

Like her father, Yamato possesses a Kanabō, which is appropriate for her size; in conjunction with her immense strength, she was able to use it to temporarily defeat Ulti. This Kanabō is named Takeru; thanks to Yamato's strength, it can be used to perform flying strikes that can even resemble energy blasts. Yamato's skills with her Kanabō are truly astonishing, as demonstrated when she was able to move quickly while effortlessly countering all of Luffy's attacks.

At the beginning of his pirate journey, Zoro only mastered Santoryu, his conventional fighting style. However, over time, he began to master techniques from other schools, such as Nitoryu, Ittoryu, and Mutouryu. Currently, Zoro and the rest of the crew have improved their abilities to face the New World.

Zoro is known to be able to cut a Pacifista of the caliber of those found in the Sabaody Archipelago, so it follows that Zoro can relatively easily cut materials even harder than steel without using Shishi Sonson-type moves, most likely because he has learned to use busoshoku haki.

And while we absolutely cannot ignore the fact that Yamato is one of the most skilled weapon users in the entire series, Zoro is considered one of the best swordsmen in the series and is close to the level of Shanks and Mihawk, which is why we I have to recognize him and give him the point in this category.

Yamato vs. Zoro: Who Wins?

This comparison was interesting but also quite simple, as the results were more or less clear. Before analyzing the results, we must confirm that Yamato and Zoro are both excellent fighters and are considered one of Luffy's strongest allies. This is why this comparison was so intriguing, as we had two characters who were themselves so intriguing. Furthermore, both rely heavily on their physical powers and skills, although Yamato possesses a very powerful Devil Fruit. But let's see what the numbers say.

Yamato is Kaidou's daughter, which gives her an incredible advantage. She is physically superior to most other characters, a trait she inherited from her monstrous-looking father, and Zoro is certainly one of those characters; of course, Zoro is incredibly strong, but not that of a child of Kaidou. Yamato's heritage also grants her exceptional durability and speed, the former surpassing Zoro's and the latter being on par with Zoro. This is why Yamato is physically stronger than Zoro.

In addition, his Devil Fruit gives him a clear advantage over Zoro, who is not a Devil Fruit user himself. However, Zoro can face many Devil Fruit users. Nevertheless, Yamato's Devil Fruit is quite powerful and, combined with his physical powers, gives him a significant advantage over Zoro.

Haki is a category in which we decided to share the points, but interestingly, we still think Yamato's Haki is more powerful than Zoro's. Of course, we acknowledged the fact that Zoro can use all three types of Haki, but we honestly think that if it came down to which Haki is the strongest, Yamato would win.

And that brings us to the final category, the only one where Zoro truly surpasses Yamato: swordsmanship. Of course, Yamato, like Kaidou, is a skilled weapon user, and combined with her overall power, she would be able to defeat most enemies with her weapons. But Zoro is on a completely different level in this regard, and he is one of the best swordsmen in the world, striving to become the best. Therefore, we are certain that his skills in this aspect are superior to Yamato's, but it is ultimately not enough.

Our analysis therefore leads us to the inevitable conclusion that at this point, Yamato would be able to defeat Zoro. It would be an intense and close fight, but Kaidou's daughter simply has more strength and endurance than the skilled swordsman, and that would be enough, in our opinion. For now. Namely, Zoro is a very fast learner and he will certainly surpass Yamato at some point, at which point we could edit this article, but that moment is still somewhere in the future and is only speculation. This article is, of course, based on the current state of affairs, and that is why our conclusion remains the same.
