About Yoh Asakura

Yoh Asakura is the man who will become the next Shaman King! The series protagonist is so laid-back, he's turned it into a fighting style! Here's more information on the beloved shaman.

Background

Yoh Asakura began his adventure at only 13 years old and has a lot to live up to! However, that doesn't stop him from dreaming of becoming the next Shaman King. Being a slacker since a young age, he sees being the Shaman King as his ticket to an easy life! Yoh Asakura was raised in Izumo by his mother, grandfather, and father's apprentice. It was his grandfather who taught him how to become a shaman. At the age of ten, he met his first guardian ghost, Matamune, and his fiancée! Angry about the planned wedding, his fiancée attacked him through an oni, but his bravery allowed him to dispel the oni. Even though he gained a fiancée, the fight consumed the rest of Matamune's energy and caused him to disappear.

Special Abilities

Yoh eventually becomes one of the Five Elemental Warriors, his trait being Earth. However, before that, he has another power: relaxation. His relaxed nature acts like a straw, bending with the wind to avoid breaking. Between training and fighting, Yoh has learned many fighting techniques, even some from his guardian spirits. Speaking of which, the first guardian spirit Yoh chooses is Amidamaru, who is a 600-year-old samurai. Loyal to Yoh and very brave, their team is hard to beat. Especially considering that Yoh's main weapon was Amidamaru's sword when he was alive!

Other important characters in the Shaman King

It would be dangerous to drive this character crazy, so without further ado, here is Hao Asamura. Hao is the current Shaman King and Yoh's "twin." Of course, there's also Tao Ren, a fierce adversary and a powerful ally. Alongside them are Anna Asakura and Manta Oyamada.

Hao Asakura

Hao's story is incredibly dark. However, he is the current Shaman King, but he is also the twin brother of his descendant, Yoh Asakura. Hao is not only the main antagonist of the series, but also Yoh's ancestor. In his first life, he was born in Douji Asaha during the Heian period. During his first life, he saw how corruption was destroying the world and saw everything as dark. The first to change this view was the demon Ohachiyo. Ohachiyo taught Hao the positive aspects of life. However, during an accident with his first Oversoul, Ohachiyo was absorbed into a permanent part of Hao. This gave Hao dangerous abilities, it also changed him even after he became peaceful and caring. His love and care made the Asakura family prosper in ancient times. Only to change.

Tao Ren

Selfish, stern, and secretly caring. That's the only way to describe Tao Ren. Raised by a very strict family in China, Ren is the product of someone's childhood being stolen. He hated and despised his father, who forced Ren to train and study his childhood years away from him. This would backfire as his father would forcibly lock away his own son, bringing Yoh Asakura to his rescue! In the end, this strengthens Ren and Yoh's bond. Ren also becomes one of the Five Elemental Warriors, masquerading as a lightning bolt. This allows him to move with lightning speed and have incredibly fast attacks. Sadly viewing Bason as a tool, Ren was jaded as a child to believe the spirits would take advantage of him. Nevertheless, Ren learns to trust his allies and becomes a powerful addition to the team!

Anna Asakura

Yoh's fiancée, Anna, is almost as powerful as he is! Anna is a second-generation shaman, though she was abandoned as a child because of her ability to read people's thoughts. Her abilities are subconscious, meaning she can't control them, and reading people's minds means she can also sense their emotions. Sensing anger and hatred, she usually avoided contact with people, but the anger always transformed into an Oni. When Anna and Yoh first met and discovered they would be engaged, Anna's emotions released an Oni. Although Yoh defeated it, they never knew the Oni's true target was Anna. They would eventually marry and have children.

Manta Oyamada

Manta is a classmate of Yoh and Anna. Manta can see spirits but has not been trained as a shaman. They first became friends when Yoh fought a spirit that defeated Manta in a cemetery. It was actually in this cemetery that they first met. Yoh asked Manta to stop and observe the stars with "them," even though Yoh was the only one there. Manta is an energetic and usually panicky friend who always has a good sense of humor.
