Kosei Arima is a piano prodigy. As a child, he dominated music competitions until his mother's sudden death. The shock of her death prevents him from hearing the sound of the piano. His world becomes dull until a chance encounter with the free-spirited violinist Kaori Miyazono. Her manic playing style shows Kosei a musical world beyond the rigidity he once knew. He begins to play the piano again and realizes he is in love with Kaori. His love must remain hidden, however, due to her apparent feelings for his friend, Watari. While they are playing together, Kaori faints. She attributes the fainting to anemia, but it turns out to be a lie. As her health deteriorates, it falls to Kosei to lift her up as she did for him. But when Kaori chooses to undergo risky surgery, their musical future together could come to a premature end.

Your Lie Series Development in April

The manga Your Lie in April, written and illustrated by Naoshi Arakawa, first appeared in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Magazine in April 2011. The manga ran until February 2015, concluding with a total of 44 chapters in 11 volumes. In 2013, the series won Best Shonen Manga at the 37th Kodansha Manga Awards. An anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures aired from October 2014 to March 2015. The anime won the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper's 2016 Sugoi Japan Awards and gave voice actress Natsuki Hanae a career-defining role. In 2016, Toho produced a live-action film of the series, which ranked third at the box office in its opening weekend.
