Born in Hasetsu, Saga Prefecture, his family owns the last remaining bathhouse in the town. Yuri began figure skating at Ice Castle with his close friends Yuuko Nishigori and Takeshi Nishigori. He is a certified figure skater with the Japan Skating Federation.
